my brother can do the same thing; what happens is they can keep their epiglottis folded back, allowing liquids to flow directly into the stomach, without having to swallow (which makes it fold back for just a mouthful).
Basically, the thing in your throat that stops air going into your stomach and food into your lungs, which does this by flipping from one position to another, is under their control and they don't need to swallow to make it automatically flip into a position, they can just "maintain" it there with their throat muscles.

I've had a ton of cats and not a single one has ever done that, or shown any aggressive behaviour whatsoever; my GF on the other hand has a cat that will scratch your hand if you try to stroke it, let alone try touching it when it's eating.
I wasn't saying it wasn't cute, i'm simply pointing out that it's not up to a good start, and as it grows older what seemed cute today, will not be so tomorrow.
