The idea is not bad but it cannot assure a total landmine clearance. A german man invented a kind of tank to do that too: that's what they say to him: it mustn't miss any landmine and this is only possible by human workers. It was tried in a difficult place, in Vietnam if I remember well.
Nevertheless, it's better to clear some landmines than doing nothing.
I think a combination of the german tank and a complete and deep analysis with heavy plows in the sand-ground in these deserts should be tried.

Not bad at all, but the problem is that you don't have the control of the direction..

You can put magnets on them for anti tank mines.

@ #1 my thoughts exactly, it's too random, once you've sent a few off these across an area you still cannot declare it safe because if you miss just one mine its a failiure.

What if there is no wind?

I also don't agree with people declaring it a failure... because if you had a choice of walking through a minefield, before or after some of these... I bet you would go after...

It may not be perfect but you have to take what you get if you are at the point of entering a mine field.

NOTE: I consider minefields to be mankind's 56th worst invention.

What about a huge fan on the other side the field ? :x

One alternative - not a nice one, admittedly - is to graze animals where mines are suspected.

Actually a better idea has just occurred to me: why not stampede all the contestants for those TV "talent" shows through the area and then audition the survivors? >:)

Brave cameraman for going out into the minefield to film this!

#8 I don`t belive that he actually enter in the mini field. At 2:15 you can see a signal that probably marks the begining of the minefield! Anyway...

I'm pretty sure there exists technology that will "xray" the ground and point out every single mine there is. But it is probably expensive, which is why "white man" don't wanna spend it on countries with little or no value.

Some Danish scientists have created a plant that change color from green to red when grown close to land mines and explosives.

#10 So what is keeping the oil-rich "brown" billionaires of the UAE from paying for the technology to be used to find the mines?

Money? Thats the issue here. I was apparently way out of line to use the word white in a sentence, as you seem to not even understand the meaning of the " " . Lets refer to it as "The western world" so that we can avoid any confusion about what kind of countries and people i am referring to.

Money. Thats the whole clue. If there was money in clearing the mines, it would have been done already. By someone, somewhere. If there was oil under the minefield, do you think that field would have been left alone? No, someone would come along with some sort of wondermachine, that probably already exists plenty.

This video just represents the sad and lonely struggle of people that are unfortunate to be in the wrong place of the world. And "we" so called civilized, multicultured people are just watching and thinking "Well, hey, good luck man, i mean, what can i do..."

You can downvote me all you want, it doesn't change the fact that what im saying is true..

aot of anti personel mines have no steel parts so xray would not help.

they should attach a red flag on the mines when they place them. so its easier to find them back.
