I prefer to use the word "staged", which I'm fairly confident it is. I didn't read the video title before watching the video (Snotr is just part of my online routine) and at the 2 second mark the student gives a very unconvincing look around the class room.

I wouldn't call it fake neither. It has nothing to do with Japanese behavior. It is human behavior. I am from the Dominican Republic and they do that a lot too.
