I'm not arachnophobic and yet... That sent a chill down my spine. Would be alot of fun with some cans of hairspray and a lighter though. "BURN, ya creepy lil swarm!" :P

Reminds me of the movies Kingdom of the Spiders with William Shatner and Arachnophobia with John Goodman. This scene still cracks me up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fmcemEkAKc

You do realise this is CGI, right? It's video procesed ("fake" for people who dont know)... very good CGI i might add :) Easy to spot if you know how spiders make their webs :)

#15 Do you have any proof that this is CGI? Almost 5 minute shaky cam video of movement synced spiders in the air? Dude... I don't event think you are spider expert or anything 8-)

#13 is right. This video is from a small town in southern Brazil by the name of Santo Antônio da Platina. The spiders are called Anelosimus eximius which live in big colonies and are known for being very social with each other and taking down very large prey as a group. :S :S

Luckily I live in Northern Europe and spiders are small! :D Although when our climate gets warmer and more spiders come to where i live then hell with that...i'm moving to North Pole! :D

Mother of God.... if I saw that I would just build a flamethrower right then and their and start burning all the demons. Normally im fine with spiders but that many? I would just lose it...

#18 Thank you for finding the source of the video and location. However, I think they got the species wrong. Look at this David Attenborough clip: http://io9.com/anelosimus-eximius. Just my opinion here but they don't look like the same spiders as in the Attenborogh clip. My guess is they didn't actually show the biologist the film they just interpreted the behavior as social on their own then asked the biologist about that.

To me they look like spiders I have seen in Korea which congregate around street lights. Just because there are lots of them in close proximity doesn't mean they are social. Street vendors are in close proximity to each other because the territory is prime but they will aggressively defend their tiny closely packed lots.

Note: Very large prey means like a 2 inch grasshopper to a spider the size of a small ant.
