I always thought entropy meant a ordered state to a chaotic state, not the other way around?

#2 Its a well documented phenomena, works with clocks and pendulums as well...so long as they are within a certain distance of each other they will synchronise with each other...and ( as you saw ) if one "slips" out of time its soon pulled back into time with the others.....the only problem is now I've forgotten what its called ! There's an explanation of it here.

Simply put: if pendulums are coupled (they act upon each other through something), the eigen-modes (modes of movement that are periodic in time and have well-defined frequency) require specific time-delays between them. With weak coupling and closeby frequencies, this usually means synchronization through resonance, when after a while, in the mixture of movements, only the main mode prevails.
