Stars evolve, galaxies evolve, life evolves.
Religious dogma does not evolve because it is immutable, handed down by a god and unable to be changed by man.
Great vid, easily understood and should be shown in schools everywhere.

this should be forced on children in schools... (I'm getting very tired of religion and it's time to evolve from it ASAP)

#2 I dont know about you, but we learn this in school in the Netherlands and Belgium.

The lessons called "Religion" are about compassion for each other, without all the stuff around it like jesus or churches , which for me is the point of religion.

Forgot to translate Vererbung :)

#2 I think USA is the only "western" country where they confuse religion with science. Everywhere else it's clear that religion teaches compassion, good behaviour, life lessons and coping strategies, explained by illustrative stories, conveniently packaged into the Bible (just like fairy tales teach children of dangers in the world). I grew up in a Christian household and I'm a scientist, and religion never forced its way into the natural sciences. It was just one of many different ways to suggest morals to a child and young adult. I'm very interested to know at what point in the history such radical degeneration of religion occured in some places in the world.

You have to be careful if you believe this video. This video is intended for middle school children.

‘To the question of why we do not find rich fossiliferous deposits belonging to these…periods prior to the Cambrian system, I can give no satisfactory answer’.
Charles Darwin

MicroEvolution is very plausible.
Using our current theory of evolution does NOT explain life as we know it.

Before the 1800's science and religion were not presented as two opposing forces.

Robert Boyle (1627–1691) Scientist and theologian who argued that the study of science could improve glorification of God.

Isaac Newton (1643–1727) He is regarded as one of the greatest scientists and mathematicians in history. Newton's study of the Bible and of the early Church Fathers were among his greatest passions, though he consistently refused to swear his allegiance to the church. Isaac Newton's religious views are considered by some to be close to deism and several biographers and scholars labeled him as a deist who is strongly influenced by Christianity. However, he differed from strict adherents of deism in that he invoked God as a special physical cause to keep the planets in orbits.

The statement from Darwin is quite similar to Einsteins view on the cosmological constant long ago.

Anybody who says that he believes this nonsense has any foundation in real science is either lying or is complete idiot.

The evolutionary process makes perfect sense to me. The unanswered question I have is, where did evolutions initial motivation come from? That's to say, what drives lifes uncanny need to survive in the first place?

Evolution is everywhere. Even if you think a car, there is a lot of stuff in it that are not a result of intelligent design. For example the layout of the controls: In the beginning there was no standard of any kind, but because specific car manufacturers succeeded better than others, most of the alternatives died out. Eventually we ended up with the de-facto layout of today.

Evolution of organisms is no different. We can argue if "God" made the original spark of life, but there is no denying that we are what we are because of millions of years of evolution.

#12 you do it every day by keeping alive, going to work and paying the bills. no one likes to do it but they do it to survive.

Actually you are all wrong, one day there was a man and a woman put on earth to start life, then a man built a boat 1000s of years ago and put all the animals on there so it must have been a big boat that holds all the sea life and birds but it was easy for him to round them all up from aroud the world, then a man in the sky sent a angel to the deepest parts of the earth, then a man split the ocean and turned water into wine, then some guy in the sky told a man to write millions of words on sheep and make it into a book, then when you die you go to a great place, but if your bad you go to a bad place, the man in the sky is perfect and loving and created everything, he created us who are bad but its our fault cause the man in the sky gave us free will, so if you don't prey you will suffer for ever,,, this is the best logic i have ever heard why would anyone even think this was made up? must be crazy??

#14 I wasn't speaking of our will to survive. Even the most basic life forms are programmed for survival. I was asking, maybe somewhat rhetorically, where this drive to survive comes from.
Picture of orion27 achievements

+2 17. orion commented 11 years ago

#16 that also comes from evolution itself: the ones that didn't have the drive to survive, just didn't. Evolution is so basic, that it's spontaneous. Diversity is just plain old mistakes at copying, and natural selection comes simply from living in some (any) environment. There is no need for the organism to force evolution - it's just subject to it (although mechanisms to speed up evolution did evolve - because it was more successful to be that way).

This is also why algorithms that mimic evolution (genetic algorithms) are used in computing - they work even when the programmer has no clue how to solve the problem. He doesn't have to know, he just needs to throw out the bad solutions and repeat the process of randomization until satisfied.

not to join in on an online discussion that will change anyone's minds.. but here I go.

In evolution, organism are on the decrease of information, not increase. And once an organism loses said genetic info, it can't magically gain it back when a situation calls for it, it must breed with another of its species that contains the info, and then their offspring will gain the appropriate info back. This "might" explain why so many animals are endangered, but I digress.

Also, evolution is based off a natural origin, not supernatural, so don't give me this, "God used millions/billions of years" crap. And, the only natural theories to origins are all flawed-they all suppose that somewhere along the line, something came from nothing, which cannot happen. Therefore, evolution is based on the impossible. So now you can choose to believe that something came from nothing (over and over again over the period of billions of years), or that there's a God out there that created everything in 6 days who loves you enough to give you a free will to choose what you want, when you want, and how you want. The choice is yours. (Let the harassing begin)

all in all it remains that Darwin's conclusions are based upon assumptions which can neither be proved nor disproved.

even though his theories make sense no one can say for sure they are true, sorry to bring that up :(|) ::(|) 8-)

What makes you think that "if evolution is a fact than religion is not true". You ambitiously love scepticism. Try sometime being sceptic about that...
