Quite an achievement 33 years in the air. Those people who are afraid of flying should take some comfort from a record like this. Great choice of music to.

Like the respect from Schiphol with their salute.
Have flown MD11 many times to Vancouver, love the larger, lower windows so you can see out better.
Have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENe89j89tBA showing first flight of A380 into San Fran. with Lufthansa - Captains comment to passengers about the salute was that today is the day they wash the aircraft!!

I did my best..
- *inaudible* .. I have just been informed that this is your final flight.
(captain) *inaudible* .. that is correct.
-Do we have the pleasure of speaking to mr Vet?
(captain) You have
-As an old 'engineering' collegue it might be appropiate to call you by your first name?
(captain) Ofcourse it is, but to whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?
- This is Joop, I'm currently an airport manager at Schiphol. When the news reached me that this was your last flight I immediately took a weekend shift to be able to 'gratulate' you.
(captain) *inaudible* .. thanks.
- We can always talk about that at a more appropiate time. But for now i'd think it be nice for you to meet my colleques for your last parking at *inaudible* 53 so we can give your our wishes for a pleasurable retirment.
(captain) I thank you for this welcome and I give you also thanks/greetings from my family.
(not sure, but he talks about it in the next sentence)
- The fact that this is your last flight with destination Los Angeles already made me expect that your last flight was dedicated to your family. But one last question; are your really retiring or will you be flying for another company for some more years?
(captain) For the moment im really retiring.
- I would have done the same. I wont hold you up any longer because the firemen are waiting and maybe we will speak eachother later but for now: Best wishes for your retirement.
(captain) Thanks a lot.
