Spencer Kelly takes a break from the Ceatec technology fair in Tokyo to have some lunch in a Japanese restaurant with a difference.
The latest technology ensures food can be cooked to order and delivered to you by conveyor belt with your bill being calculated as you dispose of your used plates down a chute to be washed

#2, Japan is a special case : there are facing a population decline and are not willing to adapt their strict immigration policy to compensation the loss.

Japan needs to find solution for replacing human workers. That's why they are one of the leading country in robotics.
Anyway I still prefer human contact that a screen to place my orders….

#7 that's actually a traditional and very convenient way of pricing sushi. Most places have a fixed price per plate (say, 120 yen each) and some places have plates with different colors and/or patterns that then have different prices. "All you can eat" is often not very economical - except for Americans who eat until they nearly burst.
