Slow motion Rattle Snake strikes

Watching anything in slow motion but one of the most feared things in the world is the rattle snake so we played with them to see what they really do when they strike. Wow they are impressive but you can see it for yourself here.

The tale is very sensitive to vibrations and so forth. I wouldn't be around when it's in motion.

Look at that tail, even in slow motion it looks fast. I hear they can shake that rattle at 100Hz - That's a 100 times a second, to me that's even more amazing that the strike!

ates from rest to a speed of 33 m/s in 0.35 s
seconds. Assume for simplicity that the only
moving part of the snake is its head of mass

#1 The tail is just a series of hollow shells made of keratin that are not sensitive to anything. Rattlers shake them when agitated and they act as a warning to would-be predators or clumsy humans.
Rattlers feel vibrations that are passed via the bones in the skeleton to the auditory nerve in their cranium.
