I used to get wound up by people defacing the language. The only thing that upsets me now is the insistence of some to avoid ALL punctuation, capitalisation and simple grammar rules.

It makes text hard to read, and my philosophy is that their writing is not worth them spending time to make it easier for the reader, then it's not worth the time of the reader.

Just brilliant, he makes a great and fairly original point that frees us all up to just talk to one another :) (even if it includes emoticons). I love it.

If it didn't trail off, I could have listened to much more!

I could not really have said it any better than you. I find myself pretty good at "deciphering" people's sentences when completely absent of punctuation, capitalization and general grammar, but it's the misunderstandings that create issues. And because I tried to interpret what somebody was trying to say, I get held "guilty" for not understanding him in the first place, instead of that particular person realizing he didn't make his point clear, or wasn't concise enough.

I don't really care about the "cuz u were l8, bra!" phrasings anymore...

I'm always distracted when I'm confronted with silly writing errors. And I'm a bit angered that the author put the burden of communication on me, the receiver, instead op putting in a bit more effort themselves to avoid these mental speed bumps. After all, written communication is 1-to-many, so the total effort of communication is the sum of one author and the entire readership. I think every drop of sweat on the part of the author is manifold redeemed when so many people enjoy the read.

I feel the same way about typography. While I agree entirely with Mr. Fry, I think the visuals that went with his speech contribute nothing; they merely distract. It's all effect and no substance.

#1, You missed a coma after the word, "capitalisation." ...Dude, com'on!

#9 That would make it an "Oxford comma" - inappropriate in that sentence. However I did entirely miss out the word "if" in the last paragraph.

I personally like grammatical rules. Great video, LobsterKing! :)
