Timezones should not even exist, just like there are no seasonzones for the northern and southern hemisphere.

Australia doesn't have a July in January and January in July. No, you just know that the seasons are inverted and regionally correspond with where you are on the planet. Same should have happened with time. Forget just getting rid of Daylight Savings Time.. get rid of all timezones!

I also think we should set a new standard for what year it is. The year 2000 was right around when the internet exploded. That should be our new zero starting point. The death of Jesus should not have anything to do with our calenders anymore. We have science now.

Studies show that daylight saving does the complete opposite of what it's intended to do: it increases electricity use. http://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1162/REST_a_00131?journalCode=rest

Ok, but I will insist that I stay up 7am in the morning like I usuall do, but you can stay up 4pm or where ever you are. Is that ok for you? Maybe you will have to do some document stuff, can you do it in like 2h after the breakfast, becouse the day will change after that and you will reach deadlines. Is that ok for you too?

#3 Obviously things would have to change around our habits. You have to look at what was the point of deadlines being set to midnight originally: It's to ensure everything gets handed in on time, so the reviewing process can start the next day. All you have to do, is add an hour of the day to your deadline that makes sense. We already do this for special tasks, and it would further prevent people from missing them because they forgot about being in a different timezone. No change ever comes without adjustment. But I'm fine with that, because it will have huge advantages. The effort and energy that is wasted every day dealing with these timezone issues is far greater than the effort investment it would take ONCE to change to a new system for good. Everyone after us would grow up with it and be confused that people used to have different timezones and DST... like it was something left over from medieval times.

Now let me get this right. Are most of you saying get rid of time zones around the whole world, well are you, are you! So when it's 11AM in the UK it's also 11AM in the whole of America, Russia, China, Australia etc etc. So that for example we in the UK might get up at 7AM (Obviously it would need to be left as it is for the UK because we invented time in the first place and we don't like change, except in the summer and winter time. Also we have actual time stored away in a bottle in Grenwich).

So we get up at 7AM and in say a state in America they get up at what used to be 7am but is now 2pm but it's in the morning because the sun has just risen, they have breakfast (usually too much) and off they go to work arriving at what used to be 8:30 but is in fact now 3:30 in the afternoon but it's morning (remember that) We in the UK don't care because it's still 8:30AM and the day is progressing at it should in fact we stop for elevenses when we might have a cup of Tea in a china cup (which we also invented by the way) At 6PM Johnny foreigner in the USA can also stop for elevenses but would have to now call it sixes, the time when they can have a couple of Burgers and a Corfee because they like Corfee and they say Corfee like that. We in the Motherland may stop for our lunch around 1PM a very civilised time to have our Salmon and cucumber sandwiches (also invented by us) while Mr America has to wait until 8PM for more Burgers and some Crips washed down with a Coke (Not diet). Doesn't really matter though as it's really Just lunch time in old America. Following afternoon tea and a digestive biscuit (Yes you are right) we finally drive home in our lovely country car passing chickens and cows on the way arriving home to our beloved wives around 6:15 where we have a cold salad because it's Summer sit back in our recliner to watch the News and current affairs programs and Coronation St. Johnny America gets to go home around midnight eats two dinners and watches Pro celebrity Baseball. Yeah can't fault it.

#9 I think they thought about another system than using AM/PM or military time altogether.

I'm sure in time something will be changed, the same applies to languages. I doubt we'll see anything during our lifetime or our childrens. Maybe a few hundreds years from now they'll look back and are confused with how we managed to get through our days with the systems we use today. The language barrier is one of the worst problems today.

I would love to live in a solar system where a day is 24 hour and night is 24 hours. Always wanted it. Would go perfect with my daily rithms.

Did anybody noticed he has gray hair. Always thought that it's very interesting. All the people 2 I know are some Very interesting people (who have gray hair). So going from that this guy is special.

We should all use zulu time. That would solve many problems, although I admit I don't know much about.

He mentioned that the earth's rotation is slowing down. True: We loose about one second a year: solar drift, entropy, other reasons for lose of energy. (Every year they adjust the atomic clocks to compensate for this)

He also mentioned that the earth speeds up. False: It was probably just a slip of the tongue, as he was speaking rather quickly. This phenomena has never been observed. (i)

i dont get the "remove timezones" idea at all. When you remove them..no matter if 12h or 24h system..them one place will have 12 o'clock...and the rest of the world has to adjust? One place 12 is noon, one place 12 is evening, one place its night? The day and night cycle is the same..and timezones make 12 in the morning 12 in the morning for everyone. I dont want my 12 in the morning to be when the sun goes down just because some other place got it in the morning. And who is in charge then to decide when is wich time where? Who can decide "we are the real 12 in the morning..all others have to adjust?"
Timezones are there for a good (scientific) reason..but i agree on daylight saving..thats outdated and unneeded.

Has this guy never heard of clock_gettime()? It's a POSIX standard. For all but historic times it saves a ton of hassle. Code reuse to the rescue!

#15 - Sizzlik

12 is a label to note order, not "time". You can change the numbers on a clock to names like Fred, George, Ben,...anything you want.
The labels we use for time (1 o'clock, 2 o'clock,..) don't mean anything and have no relation to where the sun is. Now you go to work at 08:00; maybe with a new system where everyone uses the same "clock" you go to work at 15:00. It's still morning, the sun just rose; that period of the day just has a different label (15:00 for everyone rather than 08:00 just for you). People on the other side of the earth go to bed at 15:00 as you're getting up. Maybe I live in Hawaii so I go to bed as the sun goes down at at 10:00. The 'name' of the time doesn't matter so why not have everyone use the same 'names'?

If you change your name to Belvedere you are still the same person who was labeled Sizzlik, you just have a new label. Same with the hours on a clock.

#19 It's hopeless. People don't want to get that these numbers are just relative labels, because they have an aversion to change. That's why both my comments got voted down immediately, even though they make perfect sense, and even on a reasonable video like this. This is how nationalism/regionalism and politics of the masses keeps us from making any progress on this issue... "Well, I want my own timezone and you can't stop me from doing it. I don't want to follow the rest of the world, so fuck everyone and enjoy the extra work."

i could make a lot of videos of me bitching about work, but that would be boring, almost as boring as this video.
