Why would you do that? I've seen video of tornados lifting semi trucks.

Was it anchored to the ground? I can't believe that even though it's an armored vehicle it didnt even budge in that madness.

#6 Good guess! Yes it was actually anchored to the ground -- this picture shows it, and also shows how they avoided air getting underneath the car to lift it: http://wpmedia.o.canada.com/2013/05/tiv2.jpg

As #7's link states, the "EF-4 category [tornado] was powerful enough to rip instruments from the top of the ITV2 and open the vehicle’s door, sending debris into the rig" - yikes! :O

Yes very good link, I was really curious thank you.
Wow they had to find the right terrain and have the luck to catch the tornado at just the right time. An open field with very few debris and a road to get to it, very fortunate to capture those image but the result is very impressive, jaw dropping even.

It also has a hydraulic system to lower the chassis to the ground to prevent winds from getting under and lifting it, as well as spikes on both sides that go down into the ground to anchor themselves in place.

when whatever it was hit the wind-shield, i literally crapped myself lol.
Nature, beautiful chaos.

Many people that chase weather phenomenons are underpaid regarding the risk they take compared to other professions. That's sad in a world where the climate has changed drastically the last years.
