Is that real or just a parody? Cuz if it's real, I want to have a pair of those for my car.

It is nice but it also has its downsides. If the part that was supposed to open the door is broken, you get stuck unless you break the glass windows.

Looks cool, but you have to wonder how well it lets you get out in emergency situation. Can you force it open manually?

First thing - electronic stuff is not reliable, and door is especially important - mechanic door may save your life.

These cars are hideous, but if we just look into door idea - it's not that bad...For limousines and stuff, but not for everyday use. This is much better : http://fast-autos.net/data/images/4530.jpg

great feature for not hitting your door in a tight space! I really like the idea but like many have said, what if it jams? :O

#9 one problem with the door on that koenigsegg, if you park close to a highish curb you cant open the door, and the doors on this vid seem weird, where do they disappear to, as it says eveything stays the same :/

#11, it's because of koenigsegg's height. If keoniggsegggzsgd was as high as this car, there would be no problem.

Say what you want, but you have to agree about the jamming issue. Unless, of course, they put in some sort of mechanical emergency opening system, with compressed air or something of that kind, that could open the door immediately.

In a side impact that thing is not opening. At least with a conventional car door it can be pried open. I don't even think you would be able to pry that door outward if you needed to. Your only option would be to cut the whole door off. And there aren't any hinges to cut to get it off anyway so you'd be looking at using a rotary saw to cut through all the way through the panel. No thanks, I'll take my chances with door dings.

if it jams u use the the other side... but if it jams u get a huge bill because parts are so rare.
its a stupid gimmick that's not ready for the market yet.

Nice idea for luxury, but not really practical when cost, reliability, and safety issues are factored in.
I would mainly be worried about emergency situations.

"Greater safety in door operation and vehicular crash worthiness.

Access to occupant and/or their escape greatly enhanced is serious crash situations.

Convenience of power operation.

Moving doors will stop and reverse if foreign object detected.

Vehicle floor and belly pan form a box-like structure which greatly enhances body stiffness and strength. "

it makes no difference in accident situ as most doors nowadays wont open after crash. mercedes have made a few difrences to door design and chassis i have seen mercedes cars after head on collision and u can still open rear doors damage wise for some example engine pushed back 6 inches car about 2 feet shorter than normal. having spent alot of time stripping mercs well designed motor. :)

Why's everyone going on about safety? This would also work as a conventional "mechanical door" as it would have a handle for you to push the door down the rollers as happens when it electronically operates. The worst case is a side on crash in which case you would get out the other side anyway.

#11: What? If it was high enough to matter, it would also prevent a traditional door from opening too. The difference with these cars is you only need to park 10cm away from the curb as opposed to ~40cm for traditional doors.

I still think Lambo doors are better. These look more suited to smug assholes.
