When a firearm is discharged, most of the energy escapes in the form of compressed gas, the bullet loses some more energy to friction. If a guy who gets shot gets thrown a few feet then the shooter should end up plastered to a building across the street! Going around, shooting people is not nearly as much fun in real life as it is in the digital world or in the movies, don't do it!

What knocks people over is not the force of the bullet but the shock that the person feels when the bullet hits.

It's not really an accurate experiment, I mean most people alive today are over 1 foot tall, if you was able to make the sandbag any small in height the 12 gauge slug would have trouble knocking it over

#1 #2 #6, noooo nooo nooo using a 50 lbs (~25kg) sandbag, will recoil a lot more than a lets say 75kg person!

Go on youtube and check out hunting videos, what happens when you shot a small deer with a 7.62mm hunting rifle? Do they get knocked to the ground? NO, either they just collapse straight down or they try to run away.

The sand helps dissipate the energy I'm sure anyone of those would have knocked down a solid object

The video is pretty much spot on. Only in the movies are people knocked down by bullets.

A simple physics calculation can demonstrate it as well, using mass and velocity of bullet. But an even simpler physical principle obviates the need - every force action has an equal and opposite reaction. All of the force that a bullet might impart on impact (and then some) was delivered to the person who fired it. If you aren't knocked over when shooting a gun, you won't be knocked over by getting shot with that gun.

A.45 cal.round fired from a 1911 semi-auto pistol hits with about 365 ft.lbs
of energy , enough to make a person hit the ground.
A.44 mag hits with about 1000 ft.lbs of energy,that will surely make a body hit the ground.
A.500 S&W hits with over 2600 ft.lbs of force,you are down instantly.
A.50 cal hits with almost 10,000 ft.lbs of energy , enough to vaporize
large parts of your anatomy. It will drop a charging elephant in its tracks.

#3 is right. If you put the impact point further from the ground (as it would be with a person) you need less energy to knock it over. The 50 pound vs 150 pound argument is invalid, too. The 150 pound human is "articulated" with a good amount of that weight beyond the pivot points of those articulations. Trying to move 50 pounds at centre mass at least a metre from the ground is about right.

A human would only get knocked over with body armour anyway. Anything with enough punch to displace 50 pounds from its centre of gravity is going to punch through a mass of flesh and bone.

next to that, they shot at a significant downwords angle, so, much of the energy pushed the sandbag into the ground.

The knock-down force can physically not be greater than (or even as great as) the force it takes to keep yourself from falling over while shooting the weapon. You would have to fire that crazy elephant rifle that knocks you straight off your feet to have the same effect on the target.
