Multi touch will not rule, why because if I am using both my hands to manipulate my laptop then how am I supposed to scratch my balls/arse (my appologies for being a male). And its hardly cheap if you use your frickin webcam to make a pointless touch pad, why? because to be seen you have to buy another webcam. And if you come back with an argument like "webcams are cheap" just remember having a f**king huge cardboard box next to your expensive computer is a: dumb b:uncool and c:makes your expensive stuff look cheap. The geek girls will not be impressed. More impressive would be getting someone to scratch my balls/arse so I can have an ugly touch box too.

#2 ... i guess you scratched your cheap balls too often in front of your expencive stuff :D

Perseptivepixel system: $ 100.000
Microsoft Surface: $10.000
this one: $ 30

there is no doubt that every geek girl will be impressed by this thing.

#5 as long as the camera is able to capture all of the top surface there is no problem with making it smaller.

I tested and it works perfectly :)
I'll make another one smaller now!

sorrry thats lame. i agree with #2. why spend £££££££'s on top quality equipment, just to have a big shitty box next to it. why be so cheap? and u can bet ur ball scratcher that a proper one will last twice as long.

Awesome!
I will definitely try!
@ the guys who think this is cheap: I am not one to go and purchase an expensive multi-touch pad, since it would not benefit me in any practical way.
Something like this is be fun to play with and show off to friends that don't know a thing about computers.
If I really needed a touch pad, of course I would purchase one.

i never heard of a multi-touch-pad anywhere that you could just buy... all i see are multi-touch-screens.

i like my little cheap multi-touch-pad and it fits perfectly beside my selfmade multi-touch-screen, my mac-pro and my iphone :D

@ #9: Nicely spotted

And the video is truly 1337! Calibration and getting the drivers to work must've taken ages though.

This is basically how the Microsoft Surface is made. Except they stuck a projector in the box, too. (I know coz I used to work for them..)

Great vid.. post it on Instructables?

#18 Micro$oft Surface Suxx! i knew how it was made the day it came out, because i build one for myself a half year before that and i copied from the iBar(2005) made possible with VVVV and the multi-touch-table of Jeff Han(2006) and reacTVision used for the reacTable(2006) .. Surface came out in late april-2007!
microSoft also LIEs about the mobile phone and club-card stuff. well maybe they dont lie but they "hide" or avoid talking about the tags those objects need. and who wants the ugly tag-sticker(3x3cm) on the bottom of their phone. not to mention the security issues with paymentcards. just sad how micro$oft handles this issue but thats what they are famous for i guess... decend copy, bad security >:)
