Can't wait for this technology to go mainstream, and hope most people use it. Where I live most drivers have no awareness of traffic, and I'd much rather share the road with drones then with zombies.

As a cyclist myself I appreciate the extra care that the Google robot takes with cyclists - even when they're riding like dopes...
Very impressive.

Very promising tech they got there, might have a lot of uses in the military. Why have people risking their life when you can have clever AI doing all the dirty work :)

Next, with information from data mining, the car will take you to businesses that Google thinks you want to go to.

One thing I could not understand is how does the car get so many information of the surrounding vehicles?
Even if the car has a 360 video system, some cars obstruct other cars, not to mention forestation and the likes.

The scanner is elevated over the car, so it's aware of cars all around. If the scanner can't see a vehicle (for example, if there's a truck in the way) a driver wouldn't be able to see it either.

This thing is inevitably going to get into crashes when it comes across a situation it isn't programmed to handle, because that's what happens with people anyway.
