I was expecting the foam to blow out in a wide spray to immerse any burning aircraft in a layer of the foam, not dribble and puke out like an overflowing washing machine to build from the floor up.
Seems like it would take too long to get a fire under control.

Planes are pretty tall, so this foam will miss the fire totally.

A 737 is about 41 ft tall at the tail end. Most fires will be at ground level with equipment, at the engine height, at the fuel tanks or in the main cabin. It took 2 min for the foam to reach around 8ft. This includes the start up time and the foam will now accumulate a little faster. By 6 min the foam will have reach around 25 ft - covering most of the aircraft. Within 10 min you can pretty much fill the hanger with foam. Pretty scary for anyone trapped in the hanger when this is happening. And pretty effective at putting out any fires in there.

I assume it's rather targetting the groud-level fire (burning fuel, etc.) and the primary objective is not saving the single aircraft on fire but more likely to prevent the fire from spreading across the larger area (and thus saving the other aircrafts in the hangar or so).

It must take weeks to empty that hanger of foam even if they have a bucket each >:)

isn't kind of hard to rescue someone laying under the foam? can't see much there.

that wasn't a very realistic test.
it looks like the system uses a local air-intake, so in a real emergency it would be sucking in a lot of hot, smoky air, possibly some weird chemically active stuff, and soot. with several hundred degrees celsius this would look a lot different, i assume.
since i also assume whoever designed this was great deal smarter than me, there has to be a real fire test for those... anyone got those vids? :)
