For 2.5 million dollars it better cut the grass and make dinner too!

Well, I was entranced by this until I looked at sux2bu's link and saw the finished product. Amazing piece of technology, maybe doesn't tell the time as well as my Citizen Ecodrive that cost one six-thousandth of the price (though that's not why anyone would buy such an exquisite piece of kit), but so ostentatiously *vulgar* - I couldn't be seen out in public with such an object.

Fantastic engineering....but i would rather have that wooden case it comes in! Personally i think the watch is as ugly as it is expensive!

I can see some rapper or snot nosed 0.1 percenter type buying one.... only to toss it in a drawer with a bunch of similar trinkets he got bored with.

What is not explained in this video is that Patek Philippe is known for it's crazy selection of materials too. These hands are possibly made out of mermaid eyelashes!

#4 I agree. We piss money down the drain on stuff like this when there are so many more worthy things to spend it on. Why people would downvote your comment (apart from its terseness) is beyond me. How much Ebola research would just one of these monstrosities buy?

All you harping on about spending money on things like Ebola research and crap (jumping on the band wagon of current affairs)
How much of your money do you donate to charities and research etc..?

I bet you all buy iphone 6's and give Billions to companies like Apple/Microsoft...??

This watch is a peice of art.. Some people will love it and some will hate it but in 30/40 yrs time the watch will still be worth what someone paid for it not being recycled or in a land fill poisoning someones drinking water...1

so much expense for a watch with roman number where the 4 is noted IIII instead of IV ...

They've made it with the IX (9) but not the four ...

Digits are not to be present four time in a raw in roman numbering. A detail that ruins everything.

Amazing work. Incredible detail. Shame that it's ugly at the end. Why can't they make something as incredible as this and make it look nice at the end?

First off, I created an account just to make this comment. #2 This watch tells time with far more precision and accuracy than you citizen eco drive does, as well as provides many other features while not looking like dick.

Some of you find this watch to be ugly; that is your opinion to have. I'm just here to tell you that your opinion is wrong and that shit has more style than everything you will ever own put together.

#13 Second off, The accuracy of watches these days is totally irrelevant unless you are an astronaut. A 99p digital watch will give you any amount of precision and accuracy that you are ever going to need. The watch in the video at 2.5 million dollars is a statement for anyone that buys it that they have too much money and would rather spend it on a piece of bling than do something useful with it like help some of the poor Basta*ds who have none. In my opinion the best thing about this watch is the video of it being made. The end product is big, bulky and tasteless.

If Mrs Nickk you have created this account to tell everyone that their opinions are wrong then you are missing totally the point of opinions and in this case (your first) showing yourself to be Dick. Welcome to Snotr

#8 It's in human nature :) "we love the ones who ignore us, and we ignore the ones who loves us" I hope it makes sense :D

#15 Very true. Human nature can be cruel and senseless.

Thank you for the welcome Jake. All opinions are either true or false, they simply depend on the criteria being used to make them. Everyone's opinion is true (unless you are lying), I was making the statement that the criteria people are using to evaluate the watch were wrong. I would say that the watch is more art as well as a showcase of the amazing mechanical prowess of the company making the watch. You are right the end product is not exactly something you would wear (however I would definitely wear it if I had one) but rather to display as art. As for helping others, I try to do that every day but I would still own this watch and drive a Pagani Zonda while doing so. There will always be people in need, 2.5 mil isn't going to solve shit. Additionally, you are absolutely correct in that I was being a dick, I was trying to be ;)

#17 Wrong in so many ways, but I'm not getting into a war over it - far too boring. I'll limit myself to this: "This watch tells time with far more precision and accuracy than you(r) citizen eco drive does".
I've had a brief look round the web for a reference to its accuracy. I find none. On what basis then do you state that my watch (half a second max a day but resets itself to atomic time every night) is less accurate than this monstrosity? If you can't provide a reference then you're simply making a noise.
Welcome to Snotr...

#18 I'll be honest I didn't know that your watch reset each night, that's pretty cool. I looked up Citizen and they make watches with the same functions (such as perpetual calender) as watches costing over $30,000 for $400-600. Also, I was wrong, a quartz watch has a day to day accuracy slightly higher than a high end mechanical watch such as a Rolex (this is why I like to argue, you learn stuff). I apologize for being such an ass but the point I was trying to make is that it's silly to compare this watch to your own because they serve very different purposes and I was sad to see so many people not recognize the insane engineering ability it takes to include functions such as an alarm and perpetual calender using a purely mechanical device rather than electronics. Think about how you would account for leap year and the different days in each month using only mechanical components. In addition details such as the hands moving to the new date in one motion at midnight rather than a slow constant movement are just as impressive of feats. Additionally I find the case to be a beautiful work of art and am alright with others being disgusted by it. If everyone had style like me then I wouldn't look so damn good.

#19 Now that's a first - someone on Snotr says that they may have got it wrong... :)
No problem, I enjoy a good argument too, especially with people who are prepared to listen. There aren't many of you around...
I'm pretty much like you - I'm in awe of people who can make things like this. Their engineering and craft abilities are knockout, and the video was a pleasure to watch(!) - but the finished product... <fx shudder>
I completely agree with your comment about this not really being a timepiece. Nobody in their right mind would buy this purely for its accuracy, regardless of how good it is. It's meant as a showpiece, and no doubt there are people whose taste and excess of money will allow them to buy it (I'd rather have ten differently-coloured Ferraris, but there you go).
Me, I'm happy with knowing that my £240/$360 Citizen will tell me the right date & time until 2100. I probably won't need it after that... :)
And seriously, welcome to Snotr.

Nickk, welcome to SNOTR, like your style.

For the whiners (#4,#6,#8) who always say in these instances the $$ could be used for this and that, it's just whining and I concur #9 I bet they "generally" don't help monetarily, just whine that others should with their money. Really tiring.

The reason there's no Ebola cure/drug yet is it's had an almost 100% kill rate in a matter of days in the past so it burns itself out pretty rapidly as the poor infected souls really couldn't get out of the villages. This newer strain has evolved to live longer and will pose much more danger, and when it comes to spending on these types of things the world governments and universities need to step up, but often they (governments) are too busy spending most of the money it steals from people on really stupid stuff (Google CDC's studies, it'll make you rage).

So to summarize, whining on SNOTR is the wrong place, whine to your elected officials and stop electing the same boobs that continue the status quo.

Amazing engineering that watch and superb video documenting is manufacture!
