Police backseat passenger has a gun....

The man, who was obviously intoxicated, had been seen harassing a woman in downtown Minneapolis shortly after four o’clock in the afternoon on Dec. 4.
Rather than arrest him, the officers decided to take him to his North Minneapolis home as a courtesy.
Officers “heard a metal clunk” from the rear while driving, pulled over, and found the man had pointed a loaded .38 revolver at them while in the squad car.

#3 Would you prefer to live in a world without them?

#5 without some of them, yes. although most of the cops are pretty decent people and most important true professionals, there also real dicks and nutcases among them. this won't be a problem if they where prosecuted for unlawful arrests or unnecessary use of force ( even with death as result ), but we are not living in a perfect world, and even though "all animals are equal", some animals are more equal than others...

#5 I'd prefer to live in a world where bad cops are weeded out and dealt with according to the law. Instead we live in a world where bad cops are protected by the courts, and not held responsible for their actions.

Is it normal for police in the US to have an assault rifle next to the drivers seat?
The choice of language used by the policemen seems very unprofessional to me.

The cop will never make that mistake again!
#8 It's a shotgun, not an assault rifle, and as for professionalism, it goes way down the list of importance when someone life is in danger.

#9 No, it is a M4 carbine in 5.56 mm that they carry in a holder between the seats . The 12 ga. is usually kept in the trunk along with other tactical gear and ammo. You can see the flash suppressor on the end of the barrel.

#11. No it does not. Try actually reading the article your link leads to. In particular paragraph 2, third line:

"You do not have to take this preliminary test, and the officer should say so."

The stupid thing is that the cops were trying to do this bloke a favour, next time, no matter who no matter what, it's face down on the ground, cuffed arrested and charged. They won't make that mistake again, ever.

#(removed comment) downvoted again, damn you people, this is SNOTR I thought the people who come here have a sense of humor! LOL

I have to ask, why wasn't this guy searched before giving him a ride? Wouldn't it be protocol to search an idiot harassing people to search him before putting him in your car?

As far as weeding out bad cops, we are far from doing that. In Long Beach, CA, 15 cops shoot a man "armed" with a water hose nozzle while he waits for a friend to give him a ride home so he doesn't drive drunk. They never announced they were there, just lit him up. No arrests or charges.

Fullerton CA, cops beat up a homeless man, no conviction.

Los Angeles, CA Cops shoot up (50+ bullets) 2 ladies delivering newspapers in a vehicle before determining if it was the man they were looking for. No charges filed. Same "case" they rammed a guy (seriously injuring him with lifelong disabilities now), again without first determining if he was their guy.

These are not anomalies, these are the ones that make the news, high profile, yet they still aren't charged.

This is how it's done- takes a year to "investigate", but we all know it's just a ploy to release the report after everyone has forgotten about it, except for the families. And the media is too busy chasing the Kardashians.

#14 You call it humor. I think 1010010010101 is an arrogant jerk and a troll. The votes speak for themselves. I don't enjoy the comments section as much since 1010010010101 showed up.

I know that the officers were probably pretty shaken and the adrenalin was pumping, but it seems to me that after the passenger was handcuffed, the amount of force used was a bit excessive. His movement was restricted and he was already impaired (drunk). I'm not saying they were bad cops, it is just an example of how escalated things can get very quickly when they don't really have to.
