#1 & #3 One of my friends joined a student exchange program here in Finland and went to the States for a year.. I don't remember the exact state, but tho, somewhere in the south.. He made some friends fast and first thing what they did for fun, was to go drive around to the countryside and shoot all kinds of small animals for, I repeat, FUN!
Needles to say, my friend was a bit shooked.
"Under-aged" (16-17years old) having access to firearms and killing everything what they saw on that trip. I also heard the muricans had told him that; it's pretty common in there.. Lost for words..
But guess these are just those cultural differences..

#1 According to the CDC, which is responsible for tracking those numbers, the gun homicide rate in the US last year was 3.6 deaths per 100,000 people. Pretty low considering how many of them were gang and drug related against each other. Good riddance to them.

#4 Your friends story is BS. Firing a weapon from a moving vehicle will put you in jail for a long time by itself, but shooting animals or hunting from a car or truck will get you a very long sentence.
Your story is just another "folk myth" about the US that Europeans like to tell and repeat ad nauseam.

7# As regards comment #4, He said they drove around to the countryside, and being as he is Finnish I think it is likely he meant they drove around the countryside. He didn't say they were shooting from a moving vehicle.
If you are trying to make out that young Americans never actually shoot at living creatures, but only at inanimate targets I'd say it's your story that is bullshit.

#9 He said drive and shoot, not drive, stop, get out,and shoot,so I took it as was said.
Of course animals get shot in the US. Hunting for food and varmint hunting to eliminate
pests are enjoyed by millions all over the country. One of the freedoms we have that
you are denied by your government.

Yeah they get shot here too and I have been thinking about buying a bow for hunting purposes.. And yes we are allowed to hunt, but we have to take a test for it, that they know what you are doing and if you want to have a permission to big calibre hunting arms, they need to check that you are mentally balanced person to own one. (they, meaning other people and government)
But to make it clear, my point was:
1. They were young.
2. They had easy access to fire arms
3. They did lot's of killing, various species, not for eating purposes or some pest controll, FOR FUN.
4. They changed locations, but did not shoot from a moving car.
5. Gun laws differ -> cultural differences
6. I will have to freshen my english skills!

#14 Yep that is freedom.....freedom to be stupid and leave your handbag with your loaded gun inside in the care of a curious two year old. I hope the child never learns what really happened to his mom.
It is also the freedom to defend your home and family from predators instead of living in a country of victims waiting for their turn to be robbed or killed with no means for defense.
Even Australia now is rethinking their strict gun laws in the wake of the ISIS threats to behead civilians in public. The Muslim terrorist in the Sydney cafe who killed two people before finally being killed by police could have been stopped if just one or two people had been armed. The threat is real and ignoring it will only make for more victims.
