This video is very interesting and mimics my own life quite accurately. The point he is making, really, is why do something mundane with your life, like just for an example and without any offence meant to those who do, working in MacDonald's or any corporate organisation, when you could be an artist, a comedian, astronaut.

The simple answer to this question is a number and that number is 7 with a billion after it. If everyone in the world wanted to be an artist society would collapse.

Well, if I just did what I love, it would be an insane financial risk for my family. I certainly might make a living doing it, but most likely our quality of living would be much lower. Working for the machine pays my bills and feeds my children, so I still choose that over my passion :S

Humans are generally speaking quite lazy and prefer the easy way, it's just the way most animals on this planet are designed. The less effort you spend doing something the better(less energy and less food required). In your every day work routine, you could be compared to a zombie. Each day you wake up doing the same thing - over and over again. It's not the design of an animal no, it's our society and how things just work.

From a very early age we are brainwashed to become an "individual", growing up and school prepares us to become a tiny cog in the machinery. It's not needed and never has been. Through our success in school(or lack thereof) your future is set in motion. While we can argue the use of the school and how it truly affects your future, it does have its benefits. In the end it's all about getting the people to buy new things that they don't need, you create a need in them.

Humans by nature are greedy beings, you could always be better than the next guy, you could always have more rocks in your collection than your neighbor. In the end it doesn't matter what you do. You won't be more favored by the worms the more rich you are when you're sleeping in the ground. It's just the end. In the end you'll most likely regret most things you ever did in your life. You wish you spent more time with your family rather than working on your "career".

To the guy above this comment "if I just did what I love, it would be an insane financial risk for my family", that's the wrong way to look at it. What would you call the people living in small villages with huts made out of manure and grass? They don't have "any" problems. They're actually more rich than all of us combined because they have each others. The social aspect of people outside the normal society are true humans in my eyes. They're no zombies like the rest of us. All our life we "technological" people do everything we can do fence us of from other people. We're really lonely outside of our family.

Yeah, this video was Exactly what I expected...more quit your job BS and just "Do what you want/love" and the money will take care of itself. Nevermind about not blowing your paycheck on shit you don't need and setting goals in life. Just skip all that hard part and be a fucking hippy...make art and music; and if you're incredibly lucky you'll do ok. Otherwise you'll be sleeping on the sidewalk and eating out of trash cans in under a year, but hey, that's still waaay better than working a crap job to get a decent place with a big screen TV, good food and unlimited phone/data plan right?

I actually left a well paying job and got back to my old one. People was almost cheering when I got back, we went to a bar had a blast. I felt alive. Every day I spend at work is day I look forward. The thing is I am searching for a new job right now, because I can not sustain my family doing what I love, working there. :(

If you want some real life advice try this:- Your circumstances at this moment in your life may be limited because as mentioned several times above you need a 'pay check' to keep yourself and your family fed, safe & housed. Nothing is more important to you than that, whatever you may think. Keep your mind open though because life changes and it could be that later in your existence you will be in a position to improve your lifestyle. It's often just a waiting game.

As one evaluation read, "he is extremely intelligent", graduated top of my class, 3 Masters and a PhD at age 26, but I've been "laid off" from all the jobs I've had such as, Associate Professor, Concert Pianist, Lead Software Developer for CitiGroup, etc... and all because I was just being myself and told everybody that they were idiots.

I go out of my way to show how stupid and ignorant people are, they are in comparison, but my point is that you cannot just do and say as you want without consequence with the meaningless and egocentric excuse of "I was just being myself".

Oh the irony of not being able to lead the life of your choosing because you are obligated to the life you chose earlier for yourself. :x

It's not always that easy as some commented above. And interestingly, the ones who become successful with their passion and maybe open up their own business will soon be the very owner of the kind of company that hire people to make them do meaningless repetitive burning out work and drown them in corporate clutter, that they had to do themselves years ago just so their company can grow and be profitable now.
