It's not about speed, it's about stamina, and the fact it requires a low skill level to operate. In a practical situation the machine always wins.. :(

If you don't factor in building the machine and fueling it, yes.

I totally agree with #2
It's not about speed, but it's also not about stamina or skill level. It's about simplicity, reliability and versatility.

The brush-cutter could use some longer bristles.

#6 The brush cutter is not using string , it looks to have a three-bladed brush blade which can cut heavier weeds and brush. When it first starts up you can see it looks like a propeller.

A more appropriate comparison would be to have scythe vs a combine. A weed eater is used to cut vegetation around curbs, trees, fence lines, etc, it is not the tool for clearing fields of brush. (Lets see how fast the scythe does the edging around a flower bed.)

We call it a weedwhacker in the US

#10 No, we call it a brush cutter in the US too. Just google it.

A "weedwhacker" or "weedeater" is not the same animal as a brush cutter.

Lets also factor in the time it takes to sharpen the scythe. You'll need to sharpen it on a regular basis while cutting or the work gets harder and you end up fold the grass rather than cutting it.
