#7 I've visited the archives for arctic ice-drilling cores, which are stored at -120°C at the Alfred Wegener Institute. You could walk in the freezing chamber in shorts and t-shirt without any kind of discomfort to get one of the popsicles they kept inside there. But they strongly advised to let it warm up for five minutes before licking it.

#10 So I did some more research. First of all the air is very dry so the heat transfer is much slower. If you noticed that they give you gloves when you enter is this chambers, so for the parts of the body with less blood vessels can be harmful and I don't think they do expose the eyes to this temperatures. Where I live is some winters there are temperatures of -30C, it is not impossible to breathe, but it is unpleasant. At -140C breathing without protection can inflict some lesions. I still don't think that this is indeed the air temperature but the system's. You don't need temperatures that low to induce the body response that they are aiming for, with a optimum air humidity a -20C or even higher temperature will do the same thing with less energy loss.

#5 Thats not pseudo science..have you guys ever went to a real spa..or heard of Kneipp therapy..Cryotherapy?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryotherapy
Every spa i went to had at least a "Kneipp gang"..wich is a circular walkway with ice cold water..knee high..and you walk throu it like a stork..lift the feet out of the water..make a step..lift the other...repeat..
Really good to relax your muscles.
Cryotherapy is like a reversed sauna..and the effects of cold therapy are clinical proven hundereds of years. This institute just looks futuristic and fancy like its something new..but the basics behind it are used for ages.
#7 If that coldness is impossible..how come i went to a 120 celsius sauna without boiling? Its air temperature dancing with humidity level that makes the magic.

#15 Not an argument. When not that experienced and doing it on your own risk to win a championship..your own fault..the same would happen in the cold. Dont bring a championship to the table when the topic is about medical purposes. The doctors/advisors wouldnt let you stay that long to harm yourself. In this video they said 1,5min..but thats not a must..some go only for 30 sec shock frost and then a cold shower (wich feels warm)

#14 The temperature shock inflicts an adrenaline and endorphin release. Adrenaline is a vasohypotonic that improves the circulation and moves the lactic acid from the muscles thus easing the pain. Endorphin is a neurotransmitter that is regulating all the nervous system activities, from states of the mind to pain relief.

3# Feeding Africa might not be a better cause in the long term. Sure, it feels nice to help but the areas in Africa that need this sort of help are already a non-sustainable environment.
It's a radical view (also known as the downvote-magnet type of view) but you can't solve an overpopulation problem by sustaining the population.
You either relocate the population (improbable) or the population eventually thins out to a number that is sustainable (probable).

It all depends on how dry the air is, the drier, the colder we can tolerate.
