Some of you might find this video boring thinking no action at all. But that's the point, to prevent action or at least reduce it. Do you have a video showing what's going on outside? And those of you finding this weird or not practical, better solutions?

I understand the technology, the damping action of a huge weight at the top of the skyscraper, but I don't get what we're seeing. There's an earthquake. Dozens of people know about it in advance and rush upstairs to see the weight in action...?
Somebody explain this to me.

how about, "people where visiting taipei 101, ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taipei_101 ), and happened to be on 88 and 89 floor watching mass damper at the time of earthquake?" :)

#4 Yes, that works for me... :)

I live in the UK where we're paranoid about security and secrecy, so it hadn't occurred to me that this would be open to the public. Thanks for the explanation.

A tuned mass damper, also known as a harmonic absorber, is a device mounted in structures to reduce the amplitude of mechanical vibrations. Their application can prevent discomfort, damage, or outright structural failure. They are frequently used in power transmission, automobiles, and buildings.it sits between the 87th and 91st floor......cited from wiki :)
