#1 i beg to differ..our elders went out, physical work..physical activitys in free time.
todays kids..bend back because looking on a handheld screen, no workout, not so healthy food.
There is just a small percentage in todays youth that actually lives healthy.

The means and opportunies to a healthier life is there #1, we've never had as much diversity and abundance in healthy foods, time to exercise and ways to diagnose and treat illness as we have now. But at this point teens and young adults are generally less healthy than the generation before them when they were teens. There is more obesity, diabetes, heart disease and hypertension in young people than ever before and of course there are also many exceptions. Hopefully that trend will change, but until then teens nowadays will not be healthier than older people were when they were teens. Recently at the local hospital here there was the youngest patient ever with a diagnosis of a stroke, he was ten years old and very overweight, but of course, that is only one case study.

Hell...I'm 63 , my knees are shot...so are my ankles, My eyesight is unchanged however as with my hearing, I'm still going cycling and backpacking though...even if I don't go as far afield as I used to...all in all I'm not doing so bad. I'm one of the 'lucky ones' in that I'm often told I don't look my age. Even my Dr got my age wrong....he 'adjusted' my age on a prescription once, I looked and passed it back 'thanks for the compliment Doc...but I was born in 1952...not 1972'.

I see some potential for muscle training, turning it one level up every week, not having to go to the gym.

Having money and being an "intellectual" seems to help a lot. I know quite a few 75 year olds, who are at a 100% mentally. And I have seen quite a few 55 year olds, who will not see a day of retirement in their life.
I guess cigarettes, the everyday alcohol after work, the joint when you are young, the sugar and cheap fat you consume in a way too high amount, the stiff neck from playing on the ipad for hours, the sport you watch and don't do - they all take its toll when you are old.

Now of course, we can't forget the genetic make up that dictates a lot regarding how we age, most likely like our parents, but I agree with #7, I also have seen very active and healthy 80 year olds and train wrecks of 50 some year olds. Lifestyle does matter.
