I'm sorry to upset all you pit bull lovers out there obviously including you thundersnow but I'm going to. All through the video it says again and again "Can be" "Can Be socialised" "Can with strict training" Well I cannot believe that the US of A doesn't have problems with these dogs. Because I happen to know first hand that in the UK they are banned because although quite clearly mentioned in the video they do not have locking jaws what they do hsve is jaws that are impossible to open if they grasp another dog or a person especially a small person a child. So the fact that the jaws don't lock is irrelevant, as far as the dog is concerned they do. I have lost count of the amount of children that have been killed by this breed of dog and others a lot like it.

The problem is the type of people (generally) that are attracted to this breed do not want a cuddly companion they want the status of a fierce looking dog and disaster often follows. I will never understand why anyone would want a dog that looks like this when you could have instead a spaniel or a spinone or an Airedale or a Dalmatian or a Labrador. :S

I have a bull terrier and all the dogs I've had it's the smartest I have a sister who grew up with him and never had fear of it biting, people have wrong idea because they are the mirror of the owners if we train a German shepherd to be bad it is, and if we train to be a sociable dog he also is, and the pit bull is the same they are not to blame for most people who want them are bad people .. undoubtedly the man's best friend (dogs) <3 #3 think of something like the world would be if everyone liked the yellow if all men loved the same woman same car, all the same. we are all different.... http://terriblyterrier.com/interesting-facts-about-pit-bulls/

#4 I understand that all people are different but when 'Bad' people choose a dog to be 'bad' with them you have to ask yourself why do they choose a breed like the pit bull? its a no brainer.

Time for thundersnow to put in her 2 cents, first and foremost, no worries #3, nothing upsetting about a good discussion, especially my favorite topic, and I do understand and respect other's opinions and concerns about pit bulls. Pit bulls, due to their muscular habitus, were chosen by humans many many years ago to fight each other, just like roosters in South America, and bull fights in Spain, etc, humans enjoy watching animals in activities like that whether the animal suffers is irrelevant, that's how (most) people are unfortunately. The pit bull just happened to be another lucky winner in this game of fun and pleasure for people. The pit bull before corrupted by humans never had any intentions or even attributes to want to fight and be aggressive, quite the opposite was the case. All those who are now concerned about the pit's behaviors are not totally wrong, because now after decades of abusing pits suddenly a light bulb comes on in people's heads thinking "we created a monster dog, what are we gonna do?"How about we euthanize and/or ban all of them, or making it illegal to own them, meanwhile pit fighting is still rampant in cities in the US. The Humane Society's shelters are 90% full of beautiful abandoned pits that have temperament issues and are euthanized eventually because no one wants them. But we are out there "barking" up the wrong tree. What is wrong with people??? I don't mean any of you dear Snotrarians, because I really do understand the fear and concern everyone has about pit bulls, no I'm talking about people in general. And yes, people want to make them look mean by clipping their cute floppy ears and happy wagging tails. When in reality pit bulls are extremely playful, loving, loyal, very cuddly and sooo affectionate, and yes also very protective of you, if you own one, because they fall in love with you the minute they lay eyes on you and will be that way for the rest of their lives....

#6 As everyone who knows me on Snotr will know I have no fear of controversy and can often be caught in the ocean swimming against the tide. I spend an awful amount of time in the presence of and studying dogs of every breed imaginable and their owners. I conclude that any dog is capable of aggression as everyone knows even the Chihuahua is related to the wolf as is every dog on the planet with the exception of the prairie dog.

I can see no point whatsoever in having a dog which IF it bites you are unable to get off the biteee. I don't think anyone could say that pit bulls are an attractive breed except for when they are puppies, when all breeds are cute, natures con. She does the same with rabbits hence the popularity of 12 week old rabbits in the pet shops and the lack of popularity of the majority of old rabbits which often become just something to feed and clean out by MUM!

People have pit bulls in the US for exactly the same reason they have Staffy in the UK because they are powerful and teenage boys think they make them look hard whereas a Cocker spaniel doesn't. 99 times out of a 100 when you hear of another dog being attacked in the park or someone getting bitten its a Staffy & my guess in the states it's the same plus the pit bull. My case which is brown leather with brass locks is duly rested.

#7 How come you hear about Staffies so often? Statistically a German shepherd is the most likely breed to be involved in a biting-incident. Good luck separating a GSDs jaw... I have witnessed countless bitings, because as a passionate dog sports enthusiast i am around excited dogs all the time. Never saw a staff (or similar breed) bite. The problem with the staffs and bullies i know, is that they are too friendly with other dogs, which they often find very annoying. The only incident with a 3 year old Staff i can recount was such a case. The staff fled in terror btw. :)

As for aesthetics: People find beauty in very different things. I (and i am more a herding-breed guy) find Staffs very appealing. Much more than, say, an american cocker spaniel, a pomeranian, pug ...

#7 Pit bull and staff bites get blown out of proportion by the media and always make the front page over anything else. I'm not taking dog bits lightly, and of course a dog that causes injury like that needs to be put down, but not all pit bulls bite and not all of them clamp down. I do agree that pits are often used by certain individuals to instill fear in others and intimidate, but again, many pit owners are not like that at all, obviously I'm not as you can see. The problem is that not much is done legally to stop the breeding of pits for aggression and fighting, because that is the biggest problem and the source of all regarding those dogs. The law needs to go after the true problem of pit bulls which are humans, scum humans. I really hope that over many years that will change and the undesirable traits in pit bulls will be bread out of them again by responsible dog owners, so that this breed can once again become what it used to be and was originally meant to be.
Mine looks similar like the one in the left upper corner at 0:23 with ears and tail unclipped and a pink nose. Of course beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

I still up-voted you JJ in #3 and #7, even tough I disagree with you, but just because I like a good discussion. ;) :squirrel:
