It seems so obvious doesn't it. A creature is in trouble you help it out. yet so many idiots out there don't get it which is why you find swans with crossbow arrows sticking through their necks and pellets in cats and dogs. I'll never understand that.

#2 exactly. Every time i read something along the lines of "faith in humanity restored..." as a comment under a video that shows a completely natural act of basic compassion, I am shocked that people seem to believe, that the normal thing to do is letting a creature suffer and show complete indifference.

#5 You think so? How depressing. I choose to believe in the decency of my fellow man by default. But then again i might just be naive...

#6 ever saw a cheering crowd on the bridge? cheering suicide jumper to jump already because she/he is stopping the traffic?
depressing is seeing humans every day, but no humanity in sight...
i chose to believe that the joker was right:
"see their morals, their code: it's a bad joke. they're dropped at first sign of trouble.
you'll see, when the chips are down, these, so called civilized people, will eat each other."

I think dushan is right, he is realistic by saying that common decency and respect and being helpful is not the norm any longer, so faith in humanity has been damaged, in my opinion as well. It is definitely restored when we see things like this video, it is sad that it is that way, but unfortunately it's true....and yes, we all need a hug...

Is the world really such a bad place, or are we humans simply morbidly fascinated with destruction, mayhem and suffering, and therefore the media and the consumers attention focus on that aspects of life, which in return shapes our views? From personal experience i get the impression, that people generally want to help each other (and other species) out and if they don't it is often due to fear and not indifference. That fear can be a result of social pressure as well as real physical danger.
But then again I have been in several situations where people where threatened/attacked/mugged in public and i was the only one to intervene (usually other people did call the cops, though). Perhaps I am generalizing...
