#4 after some digging it is apparently a "common" failure caused by friction in the transmission and the lack of oil/lube that can withstand the immense pressure that can build up in these turbines.

#6 Yes, I found that information too, and apparently it's not uncommon for turbines to catch fire, but I still couldn't find any information on this particular incident..anyone else?

one down, bad maintenance or bad design, no excuse with todays monitoring systems and failsafe devices for this sort of thing to happen, you car shuts down if your oils or water is low to save its self and costs a fraction of what one of these costs. when they have a run away, why not blow the blades off at least you dont destroy the main part of the system and they will fly off in the end anyway.

probly deu to high winds they put a break on them, but 1 here where the brake failed to stand against that huge force or didnt turned the blades in stand by mode, then started to rotate, with the brake on. movement + friction = heat.
