#1 Seems fishy to me as well. The only shots of him flying are in a height typical for a water powered flyboard. We never see him take off or land, only in the landing sequence that has some weird cuts. The shots from high above look like they have been shot from a drone. Either it is fake, they want to create mystery, or somebody made a lot of extremely bad editing choices.

(i) You can watch him take off and land on the zapata racing page on facebook. which leaves the question: What were the editors thinking?

If this is real (and I doubt it) then you are risking your life to ride this thing. An engine failure at 100' would be fatal and you would need to be at least 300'-400' high for any parachute to have any chance of slowing down your fall , and that is if you were quick enough to even try to deploy the chute. :S

#4 and #5 - I remember when this story appeared on Slashdot on 17/04. Looks to be for realz.

Zapata Racing has begun testing prototypes of a new jet-powered hoverboard called the "Flyboard Air". The Verge published a new interview with the company's CEO, who confirms that a backpack full of kerosene-grade fuel powers the flying hoverboard's four 250-horsepower turboengines, with two more engines used for stabilizaton. Capable of flying up to 100 miles per hour, the jet-powered hoverboard uses an internal algorithm to adjust the thrust and angle of each turboengine, so "It's like we have six systems working together plus my brain and my legs." The company hopes to ultimately interest the military and security sectors in the technology, but they're also working on a smaller version that could be piloted while sitting, which the CEO describes as "extremely small, extremely stable, and something that you can take to go and buy your bread in the morning."

#10 if you buy that bread, don't put it in the trunk or you'll arrive home with very burnt toast :S

Your explanation sounds plausible but the video still reeks of fakeness. If it's real, then indeed very poor editing. And if it's a kerosene-powered jet then good luck to those poor souls that the pilot happens to fly over. Toast as well.
