These better be very very cheap otherwise they are going to be a muggers/pickheads paradise. :S

How you cancel outside noises when you want to listen music? No plugs or cups to cover ears, no noise dampening. Do you have to buy separate Peltors? I would say definitely no, still keeping my noise cancel earphones. And probably still cheaper than those things.

They could put some effort into the design, right now it looks pretty bad.

#2 Have you listened to what they say in the video (hint: it's in the first 15s)? The point of this product is to not cut you from your "social life".

#2 I do not think they implemented it, but active noise dampening is possible. I worked on the development of light weight noise reduction solutions for crew sleeping cabins in aircraft and our results with piezoelectric actuators that feed countersound into the pannels were amazingly good.
The spacial distance between your ear and the device limits the spectrum that can be processed by the control system but I suppose wavelengths under 5 cm (6500 Hz) should be manageable.
The frequency band of human speech lies between 300 Hz and 3000 Hz. If you suppress other noise in that range you could understand a phonecall in even the noisiest conditions. Also it would be perfect to discretely shut up a nagging wife.

180 bucks to look like some back-to-front Geordi La Forge?! Guess I'm not an early adopter...

Oh, yeah... That'll happen... This is compleatly NOT bullshit... They are surely honest and have the best and brightest scientist on the project so that they can ensure delivery of an awesome piece of revolutionary technology... BUT, as you all know; all good and honest revolutionary projects in the history of the world started with you sending money to the nigerian prince... In order for you to take part in this revolutionary project, that will also feed all the starving children in the world (if the kickstarter goal is meet), send as much as you can to: easily.scammed.fool@gmail.com. We need ::(|) to get rid of world hunger and boring ol' headphones...

Looks to be very similar to these. Works on same principle as Cochlear Implants.
