I find a serious flaw in this. With the same angle, direction and firepower, they will hit the same place and the enemy can just avoid it.

#1 True. There was just one thing he could have used help with and one person missing would have been standing to his right and would have helped him with that. Still got 5 rounds out faster than the other four guns.
#4 True. It is. Since then M198 howitzers have been largely replaced by rocket artillery.
#5 That's why a fire mission is rarely larger than 5 or so rounds. It causes a large amount of damage in a shot amount of time. Then forward observers access the damage, and enemy reaction and adjust.
