I'm that age too, and love dubstep, D&B, trance, trap, house, all of the EDM subgenera...this is not the best, but a fairly current dubstep song:

Love this Skrillex one:

In regard to the people listening to dubstep for the first time in this video this applies again:

I too am in this age bracket and have been involved in music all my life both playing and signing in bands. My opinion here is not going to be popular with most people younger than me and some of the same age. I fecking hate it!

There will always be the generation thing it's part of growing up and it really started with good old rock and roll when parents were listening to easy listening. It's partly a shock thing, partly sheep following sheep, partly being afraid of nonconformity, partly emperor and his clothes syndrome and mostly as was described in a video earlier this week Cognitive ease.

Music becomes the most important thing in most children's lives from around the age of twelve to around nineteen. During this major time in development of personality and ideals life seems simple, lasts forever, anything is possible, life is, if you'll forgive a pun ' A Gas'.

Of course then reality start calling, relationships become serious, you need a job, you have bills to pay, big bills, people you know start dying, life becomes much shorter but the day's longer, tastes change and if you are sensitive you seek out comfort and depth in everything including music and I'm sorry but DubStep isn't what you will find on that road.

#7 and others here...first of all, no need to worry about expressing your opinion, because that's what snotr is for, to be able to do that safely and still being liked and your opinion respected by your snotr friends..I personally want to hear other people's opinion and enjoy reading it, even if mine may be different...

I think what JJ is saying is true, the generational thing is playing a big part, when I was a teen, Rock, and Disco were big and it provided comfort and a unity with friends, it was part of what defined us..however, for me personally those times provide not just memories of youthful bliss, romance and fun, not at all, they also provide memories of intense conflict, low self esteem, the pressure of peers, to succeed in school, to look beautiful, to have or not to have a boy by your side, in other words feelings of pain and disappointment...etc, and maybe I was particularly sensitive to those stimuli, but the fact is they do not necessarily elicit only good memories for me which are coupled with the music of my time....fast forward many years, as my children got older, especially my sons, they exposed me to "techno", now called EDM in the US for many many years, and their passion and love for it was contagious, I was exposed to it at home, during their teen get-togethers, in the car...I basically also "grew up" with it...and as the Cognitive Ease video explains , you get exposed to it countless times it becomes comfortable and you will grow to like it..to this day this is the reason I love electronic music, it "resonates" with me, but I also love many other genres of music too...
