Sadly not an easy topic thundersnow. There seems to be a negative correlation between rapes and the number of prostitutes, with the exception of japan, where rape is still a crime handled by the yakuza rather than the police.
On the other hand a overwhelming portion of prostitutes drift into drug abuse and not all clients are nice guys. Over time revenue for most prostitutes drops significantly, to the point where they barely can live from it. I guess only few imagine how bad it will get when they start this downward cycle.
I understand your position, but I would rather increase sentences for rape drastically and ban prostitution. If you really want to blow of steam, go to youporn. Not the same, but with a lot less consequences.

Before you should make this a legal issue, please try and offer the prostitutes education, jobs, health care etc and see if that works. I see many issues about the physical and medical safety in this profession. And I may have many moral, ethical and human objections against the whole thing, but I will not allow anyone to make laws about it based on my personal view.
In Norway we have laws about it which I find offensive. Those who suggested and made those laws thought about human trafficking and the pimps. But how the authorities work has not caught one single of them, only a few customers. And the prostitutes that get no support are forced to hide and work in the dark. Making it even riskier.

#2 Doesnt negative correlation mean more-less? since positive means more and more,
Legalizing and regulating means, doctor approved and save work place, if nothing else you can run to police and tell them whats going on and if it is illegal you cant do nothing else but cry and dull the pain with drugs.
As for income you wont see much 40 year old athletes
Athletes use drugs, everyone does its just more common for low income people to use bad quality drugs couse they cant afford better ones
jim jefferies on prostitution

#1 True, because it is a job of choice to someone, who enjoys sex with strangers. #3 What I've heard in Finnish media about prostitution in here, our prostitutes are highly educated and they do it for the extra money and pleasure they get from it. So, I don't think that education would help in every case.
Drugs for me are the same, If someone enjoys using them it should be fine, as long as you are not harming or putting anyone else in danger by doing so!
But if "harming" is someone close-minded getting offended by what you are doing, that is not a valid reason to me. In my opinion; nothing should be banned what is your own choice, but if you are forced to do something like this, then it's very wrong! Many negatives caused by these (prostitution & drugs) would go away when people involved were protected by laws and not criminalized by them!

#2 I agree with you, it is a very controversial topic with many different aspects, I think you meant a positive correlation, but that's why I think legalization, decriminalization and regulation are so important, because it provides more safety for the worker, and legal support. As long as the worker and the customer are criminals, there won't be much reporting of rape, fraud, abuse, etc, because the worker is not legally backed up. Regulation will also help take care of medical issues through the department of health, and regular check ups. #3 illustrates what happens when prostitution is illegal, same is occurring here in the US....recently a man was with a prostitute in a motel, he had a stroke, became unresponsive, the prostitute took all his valuables, but did not call EMS until much later until she was well away from the scene, the man was hospitalized, but never recovered...I know, just one individual case, but my point being, had this business agreement not been illegal, the outcome may have been better.

Legalizing or not is an extremely difficult topic. The most cases of rape aren't committed to satisfy an urge for sexual stimulation, but for sadistic reasons and the feeling of dominance. These people would be also abusive to prostitutes in a manner that clearly has to be illegal. Legal prostitution automatically means more girls will consider this damaging career path that usually ends in drug addiction. On the other hand illegality takes them the last hope for protection, but to be fair, just because something is legal it does not mean it isn't controlled by organized crime, like the club business in certain areas for example.
I do not think the law can have much impact here. Society has to realize what those customers really are - sex offenders. The chance you end up with a prostitute who does not have sex with you against her will (for various reasons) are extremely small. We all have to create a climate, where people do not think it is ok to pay their sons a trip to the brothel for their 18th birthday.
