Incredible footage of hermit crab changing shells with anemones!
In this exciting excerpt from the third season of Jonathan Bird's Blue World, Jonathan films a hermit crab changing shells and then also transferring its anemones from one shell to the other. This is extremely rare footage of a seldom-seen behavior!

I've seen the shell changing before many times but this is a first with moving the lodgers which incidentally would be a perfect name for anemones.

Initially I thought he was changing shells because his was too small and too heavy due to all the lodgers. Then I thought he was was pulling the original owner out of the new shell so he could move in, then I thought he was moving shells so he could eat the lodgers on his first shell, then move back it. I don't think I've even been wrong so often in concession. Next time I'll watch it with the sound on and apologies for calling her a him
