#2 According to a quick search, the cost back in 2012 appears to have been $0.34 per note. I also found this for ya: http://www.rba.gov.au/publications/annual-reports/rba/2015/banknotes.html

We are getting a similar change in England any minute now with a new £5 note followed by a new £10 note next year and a new £20 note in 2020 I understand. They are actually plastic so don't tear and have around ten times the life of the current paper notes. They also have a raised area of dots on them for the visually impaired It's not braille though as interestingly only a very tiny percentage of blind people actually use braille, the three notes will also be different in size and hopefully a real nightmare to forge.
