The first ad at least makes you feel good about "joining". The second ad however makes you want to stay far away. Is that really the point of the second ad? I thought they *wanted* you to join not scare people away. There was another ad not shown for quite a few years ago that aired in Sweden, it was even more grim than this one. They just can't make epic ads in Sweden.

#5: The thing is that Nordic people really aren't that patriotic. Having an ad similar to the US's would just make all kinds of dumbass crazy people join the ranks while leaving the good and smart people out.
I think it's a good ad - the soldiers are not going to be invading a country, but helping and protecting civilians. It's a good thing if you want to do it despite the obvious risks.

#7 Scandinavians love their ways and their culture, but their patriotism isn't as *military* as the American is. Muricans are all like, "from my dead cold fingers" and guns and bombs and brashness, while Scandinavians take a more gentle approach -- more brains, less brawns, if you will.

Interesting commercial comparison..... Sweden has always tried to remain "neutral" and nonmilitaristic even if the world was in chaos all around them. In WW2 neutral Sweden continued selling iron ore to Germany to build the Nazi war-machine and even let the Nazis use their railways when they invaded Norway. The sale of iron ore made Sweden the richest country in Europe by war's end.

That's why I liked his speech so much, because from above or even space it seems so silly and trivial to fight over everything, and we are so physically close to each other compared to the vast space..I mean, what are we thinking?

What is this, a liberal wimp world peace herd gathering? There is a religion with over a billion members who have been indoctrinated that all infidels are to be eliminated. Take your next vacation in Syria, Iraq or Iran or many other Islamic countries and let us know how it works out. There is no "world" peace. The few men and women who defend this country that allows you to make assinine fairy tale assumptions are paid the least, sacrifice the most and are appreciated the least. May God bless them and keep them safe.

#1 people (and animals for that matter) have been fighting for thousands of years mostly for resources and/or territory. Race is for the race baitors.
You can live in your fantasy land, but let the adults take care of things while you suckle and watch cartoons.

#12 i am not liberal nor conservative , i just stated the facts which are not even secret any more (some companies even apologized ).
The other fact is that Syria was a great and developed country with great education , health care system and quality of life before the war.
Fact is that many leaders of Al-Qaeda , ISIS and other groups that started the wars around the globe were instructed and weaponised by US.(in the past of course)
Fact is that US fabricated things in the past to start the wars around the globe (Weapons of mass destruction?)
Fact is that around 600 000 000 000 $ is spent on military per year , but if you leave salarys and stuff aside. US tax payers pay around 350 000 000 000$ to private companies PER YEAR! which means more than a 1000$ per person per year for weapons and 1800$ for military. Think of that.
Fact is that sweden needs army to maintain peace and US to fight wars 10000km from home. To have less inteligent or uniformed people believe that they are doing the right thing while driving a tank through Alepo or Kabul or BAghdad. and what else can motivate them to kill around the world than to make them believe that they are the good guys and all those evil terrorists have to be killed.
And after the war US companies take the oil, rebuilding contracts, water contracts.
I am late for work now

#18 No worries, everyone at work will understand that you just made an important contribution on snotr (you did! I like your comment!) and surely that is more important than showing up for work on time. I've been late for work before too, because of snotr....oops..gotta go, running late again...

#18 The largest percentage of the budget are in three catagories, health and welfare at 28% or 29% if you add housing, social security at 25% and defense/homeland security at 19 %. The necessary - Defense and Social Security. The government leeches are sucking 12.4 percent out of every payroll dollar. Although many contributed to social security and will never recover their investment there are many who have not. The unnecessary, permanent welfare, it was originally designed to provide temporary relief, eighteen months until people could recover and gain employment. The current welfare system is not less than economic slavery, generation after generation have been on the program, able-bodied men are crying out "you owes me" that are allowed to remain on it, the benefits are higher than working couples and recipients have more disposable income,
Don't get me started on Obama care everything the spineless has touched is a disaster. Lybia and Syria are perfect examples of his and Hillary's stupidity.
Incidentally, these nations profit from their exports of oil, the sheiks get richer and the people stay poorer. If there a fault is not the western world, its their religion and barbaric systems of goverment.

#19: Can't argue with that.
I was thinking more about the kind of patriotism you see in US, China etc. A lot of people think their country is the best in the world and will get really offended if you present any kind of criticism. The vast majority of people in Northern Europe don't really give a rats ass about those matters. Sure, we love our countries and especially our way of living, as #8 pointed out, but we are way less passionate about it.

Interesting (and funny) bit of info....
The Nordic Battlegroup's coat of arms is a blue shield bearing a silver lion with red tongue and claws, holding in his right forepaw a sword and in his left an olive branch, both of gold. The lion is a national symbol common to the constituent countries of the Nordic Battlegroup except Ireland, and the sword and olive branch signify the ambition to impose peace - with or without the use of violence.
In 2007 the commander ruled that the lion's penis had to be removed. Since civilian women are often sexually abused in the war zones of the world, they did not consider the depiction of a penis appropriate on a uniform worn into battle.

You should try to get Discovery Channel to do Penis Week, to focus people's mind on this endangered species and educate the public that they aren't the monsters they're thought to be.
