Just in case anyone is not aware SNOTR the site/ business is up for sale I heard a figure of $40.000 £33.000 ish Not sure if that is accurate. Frightening times guys!! I'm not a great advocate of change as in my experience it isn't always for the better but then again I have experienced the NHS.

I was wondering if any of you out there fancied the idea of a community take over. I have absolutely no idea how to run a site but maybe it's doable. Obviously it would require a community divide of the purchase price and some information about running costs, It depends also on how much you love Snotr, but as share holders it might even be possible with... dare I say it the inclusion of some advertising to make us all millionaires, bear in mind before you pooh pooh the advertising thing that is what the new owners will do anyway whoever they are. £33k sounds a lot but it soon divides down with enough interest?????????????

Could Admin explain to the community here A) The reason for selling..was it something we said? B) How much it is expected to sell for in $ and £ C) What would be involved in taking this over ie is the technology included in the sale and what knowledge would be needed to make it run? D) What are the monthly costs involved in running Snotr E) What else should we know?

Is that the reserve price then?

I am considering buying it. It only costs about $40 a month to maintain and makes about around $100-$200 a month.

Seller's Notes

The site:

Started 10+ years ago in 2005
Users submit videos to the site, voluntary moderators review and post the videos
Almost NO monetization being done, just a few banners
Literally ZERO marketing being done
~59,000 registered users + another 60k email addresses - 17,000 published videos
Best AdSense day: $1,580, best month: $21,451
Total hosting cost: $37 per month including bandwidth
Includes site (source code + database), Facebook and Twitter account

Opportunity:

Market and grow the site, traffic can easily be bought
Monetize the site: add video pre-rolls, sponsored posts, more ad spots, native ads, etc

Why we sell:

Our team is focusing on new projects, need to sell off existing ones
We feel another owner can take the site to the next level

Yes. Key concern is that looking at the last 10 pages of videos, they have all been uploaded by about 10 users. with 5 users accounting for probably 80% of the content. The site has basically become a place where 5 mates chat and a few others get involved every now and then.

I work in IT within the advertising industry but even with the know how, I'm not sure I can justify that reserve price. It's probably worth more like $10k tops. My advice to the sellers is drop the asking price or do something positive to increase traffic. I think others have also made comments along these lines on the sale site.

Would be interesting to see what proportion of the last 1000 videos were uploaded by thundersnow (#13 thank you btw. You have great taste & now I know how to open a bottle with a sheet of paper). My guess would be a third.

And that's considering I have only started submitting in summer of 2015. Before that I was an infrequent commenter and mostly a viewer. Weird, come to think of it. Love the math...how you did that...pretty cool! Thank you #14. Yes #15, it would probably be a lot since I never uploaded before summer 2015. Interesting stats! :):*<3

oh well now we are at 18% of the last two years or every fifth video

P.S.
18417 (latest video) - 15674 (your first) ((sounds weird)) is 2743 videos and 497 of those are yours .. you should buy it :)

i have 2 videos 6 years ago and 11 this year .. i could be a shareholder :)

Yeah, figured the percentage would be much higher. The business deal doesn't go to the highest submitter (by the way, you could do the math on Burimi, I bet overall much higher!), it goes to the best business person, and that's not me, I prefer working for others....okay time to open a beer...with a bottle opener ;).....was a stressful day!

#11 indeed assuming everything stays the same with the current numbers it'd take 22 years ROI at $40k if my math is correct. $40k / $150 month profit ($200 revenue-50 in operating costs) =267 months / 12 months = 22 years and 3 months.

At $10k that drops to 5 1/2 years.

Again, all assuming everything stays the same and burimi and TS don't go anywhere and continue to add content! ;)

But the big question and why it hasn't sold before (this is the 3rd time it's been listed) is whether or not you can bump up traffic.

Ad pricing on the internet is very cheap and the competition is huge.

User funding a purchase is interesting but generally those that have time to visit the site often don't have anything better to do, like make money! So many will say yes I'm in, but in reality you'll get 2-3 that are serious about maybe $1k each (as JJ already has).
