This was in 1957 and if nothing else describes the food ignorance of the UK back in those days. Spaghetti was known in the UK as something that came in a tin often in hoop form and later in alphabet letters in tomato sauce. Tinned Ravioli was introduced to the UK in 1965 and Spaghetti hoops in 67. To my knowledge the majority of the population did not sit down to a spaghetti or pasta dish until well into the 1970's. I would be interested to hear the comments of some of the 'More Mature Snorarians' on their first spaghetti experiences. Having said all that according to Thunders you still can't get a Dona kebab in the USA so we are now well ahead

#5 I recall being on vacation in Switzerland quite a bit in the 60s when I encountered spaghetti and pizza for the first time in my life. I was around 5 or 6. I also remember a dish called "noodles and tomato sauce" when I grew up, that my family made from time to time and that was probably the precursor to spaghetti but was not defined as that. As a child I loved those. We did not have canned pasta.
Maybe I should rephrase the statement I made that there are no Döner kebaps in the US...maybe I just haven't found them, but for sure there aren't as many as in Germany. My son found a Döner place in Manhattan in NYC and said it was the closest to a good Döner he had ever had on this side of the Atlantic, but next time he went there the place was closed. Since we all love Döner, my daughter attempted to make her own and had a Döner party at her house, the shredded grilled meat, the fresh bread from a Bosnian market in our area, the veggies were easy to find of course, and she found recipes for the sauce on the internet. They really turned out great. Everyone loved them, and no one (besides us) had ever had them before....oops that got long
