Well when country doesn't give any money to their people it gets rich.
That's why Dubai has all of it's "breathtaking" structures.

#2 It looks to me as if you are mistaken about the income of the citizens of Dubai from what I know and have read.
Natives in the seven-state confederation of the United Arab Emirates earn an "average" of nearly US$30,000, among the world's highest annual income. Dubai is second on the list, after Abu Dhabi, where annual income was estimated by one bank to average a staggering US$128,000. Plus there is no sales tax or income tax,you get to keep what you earn.

#7 My brother who lives in Las Vegas was friends with the pilot for the Sheik of Abu Dhabi and they would hang-out/party with friends while the Sheik partied and gambled at the casinos. He learned a lot about life in the UAE and how nice it is to live there. ![]()

#2, It's the oil. As long as they're sitting on black gold, they have 0% taxes and thus wealthy businesses ![]()

#3, #5, #9, #14. Well you're kind of right. Because there are two sides at this.
80% of the people living in Dubai are foreign workers.
Many of these people are from western countries and work somewhere like for example Nokia Siemens Networks and other places where they have high income.
But many people are from countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. These migrant workers earn approximately 120 euros per month and have no civil rights and human rights groups have criticized their living conditions.
So Dubai has two kind of people working there. The ones who are there just to stop by and fly back home every weekend to their families (ok, not everyone) and the ones who live in "criticized conditions".
So by "their people" i mean people who work for Dubai, NOT the people who work for non-dubai companies. These Nokia workers don't get their money from Dudai so they don't count. But these struction workers do!
Dubai uses cheap foreign workers who have no clue how much they should actually earn to build their city. And as the first article of United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights says: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." And in Dubai rich people get richer and poor people get kicked.
But maybe i was just thinking for the little people. Because some people do!

@#16 I believe we were all talking about the "native" citizens of Dubai, not the foreign workers. The native residents have a high level of earnings and the foreign workers from Germany, the Netherlands, the US and other industrialized countries that are there performing the construction are making astronomical wages. Even the lower paid "laborers" from third world countries are making wages unheard of in their home countries.
When residents of Dubai move to foreign countries they still get payments from the Dubai government because they are entitled to them.

lol when they started shooting fireworks, i was like : "what the hell that's it ?" and then the music kicked in and the sky view ... awesomeness !
As for Nr.2 /16, i don't think they treat their workers that bad

forget the debate about the nation
...LETS ENJOY THE FIREWORKS SHOW!!

It must have taken an army of fireworks technicians to creat such an elaborate and far-flung display. It looked to cover acres around the complex and out on the palm islands.

Now imagine, if some of the fireworks did not blow up, by some I mean half or more. In my opinion the engineers etc. would have been killed an hour later, right?
