Russian cyclist evades death

Shocking footage shows moment cyclist miraculously evades death after being sent flying by a careless motorist and smacking head first into the bonnet of a second car.

This is the miraculous moment a cyclist evaded death when he was hit by a careless motorist and sent flying through the air before smacking head first into the bonnet of a second car. Footage of the crash, which happened in Severskaya, southwest Russia, earlier this month, shows the cyclist jump back up to his feet instantaneously. The lucky rider escaped with only minor injuries. In the short clip, which shows the crash from three different angles, a driver indicates left to make a turn off the main carriageway and onto a smaller road.

The car driver was clearly not paying enough attention, but the bicyclist was clearly on the wrong lane.
Maybe the driver thought he would already have turned right by the time.
Not saying he deserved it, but he really needs to be more careful.

#1 the cyclist was NOT in the wrong lane, the cyclist was heading straight and was just to the right of the straight through lane. Part of the problem is it's kind of a fast downhill section, he had no time to react. It's really interesting how the person stopped, waited, then went just as he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But then consider the idiot can't even park their car correctly.

This almost happened to me this weekend, some lady pulled up to the intersection on a fast downhill, then pulled out. Luckily I was back far enough to slow down and miss her.

I'm often ( well...'sometimes' ) asked why I take part in the London Naked bike ride ( yeah...naked ).

One of the reasons is that its a protest about cyclists getting killed or badly injured by motorists who don't pay attention to what they are doing. Before anybody says its often the cyclists fault I'll actually agree...I've seen enough morons on two wheel's to last a lifetime...but there are a large number of people killed or maimed every year for no fault of their own.

The WNBR ( World naked bike ride ) takes place ( as the name might suggest ) all over the world...check out their website if you want to take part....you don't HAVE to be nekkid...the 'rule' is 'as bare as you dare'....

Personally I reckon Thundersnow should take part ;-)... ( grins behind hand ).

And...if any of you do cycle...be careful out there!

Thunders is very flattered to be encouraged to partake in the Naked Bike Ride with the cameramaster :) she probably should just go and do it, I think it is a really cool event (especially if it is cloudy that day;))....but lo and behold....thunders is a little shy, for no particular reason...but she promises she will keep it in mind. Nice comment you made, cameramaster, to encourage awareness for cyclist, it's only safe and courteous to watch out for them at all times when in a car on the road. At least in Europe you have come quite far with that so far, here in the US, cyclists are unfortunately still treated as a second class member of the road, car drivers being very quick to always blame the cyclist if there is an encounter, instead of finding fault in their own driving style. I think that's a shame, I wished it would change.

#6 I don't know the traffic code in Russian but where I live, the arrows in the middle of the road are not suggestions, and the white stripped triangle in the middle of the intersection is not supposed to be crossed.
From what I see, the bicyclist was supposed to turn right, and I wouldn't be surprised if some insurance companies could use that fact against him.

Anyone who thinks that the cyclist is at fault here in *any* way needs to have his eyes examined. He was wearing bright clothes, was positioned correctly in the road, and was given no time to avoid the moron who drove into him. If he had intended to turn right, he would have been at the far right of the lane, or at least in the centre; as he was, a couple of feet over the white line, he was sensibly avoiding any fast traffic behind him going straight over the junction.
And as for the driver being unable to see because of a thick roof pillar... really? Have you not even looked at the video before posting this comment? The cyclist is 30 degrees to her(!) right through the windscreen - there is no, zero, possibility of restricted vision.
Summary: 100% the fault of the moron who bought her driving licence or cut it off the back of a cereal packet.

#10 Believe me Thunders here in the UK we also treat cyclists as second class citizens. I mean they don't even pay road tax, they can't keep up with the proper traffic and they can't afford a car what do they expect. :D

I think the Golf driver hit him on purpose. And that driver in the Lada (which is standing and waiting in that side street) should ensure that the job is appropriately done.
After he saw that the cyclist getting up, they came out to finish him >:) :P :squirrel:

Put on the side that the golf driver is actually chubby woman ...

#15 You're probably right, it was most likely the result of a romantic drama, the "hot" cyclist having recently dumped her for another woman, and she couldn't deal with it in a dignifying way, and resorted to an act of desperation. >:)....so glad the cyclist survived such an evil act, and can go to live happily ever after <3

Blue sign right turn only, white arrow on the road right turn only, solid white lines. only thing missing was a red light to run, and number 22 in the bike riders book of excuses, it was the car driver fault for not realising i was in the wrong lane, or 23 the road markings were wrong, 24 the drivers fault for not beening a mind reader, and on a on, just to sum up, the riders a dick

-1 21. Billm1 commented 7 years ago

#20 biker by any chance, what bit of the signage or road markings did you miss??? or do they not apply to bike riders, Probably could not pass a driving test as you certainly don’t know your highway code. like they say truth hurts. mental disability oooo not a good subject to miss use in a comments box i think, a pound in a Charity box for that one

#21 Biker, motorbiker and driver for a very long time, so I come at this from a position of experience and informed knowledge, not ignorance and bias.
Picture of Billm117 achievements

+1 23. Billm1 commented 7 years ago

#22 What part of ignoring the road markings and signs did you not see, o he was only just to the right of the solid line with his head down, or as they say in legal terms the wrong side of the solid white line, try that one on a police officer, I was only just over the white line when I hit the oncoming car so it is not my fault. no brainer to any who knows his or hers highway code, or a lawyer, or anyone else come to that
Picture of oleHashow30 achievements

#23 Maybe if you would have some brain cells you would understand that, if biker were to turn right he would not be as far left as legally possible.
if he would take proper lane far left you would argue that bike lane is far right and bikes should be on bike lane, but biker know his best option and that is imagine bike lane near proper car lane.
sure biker will block traffic for those turning right but they need to break anyway and they can move onto bike lane.
Biker was nice to other cars that might go forward and let them pass.

but as sale said it look intentional golf drives pull up stops waits for like 3 sec and then perfect hit.
Picture of Billm117 achievements

-1 25. Billm1 commented 7 years ago

#23 even with one brain cell still in wrong lane and as far legally left would be in the straight ahead land and not in a right turn only lane, get some new glasses
Picture of oleHashow30 achievements

0 26. oleHashow commented 7 years ago

#25 legally left to turn right.
im not sure what part of this is confusing to you?

Well i guess what you are saying this was civilian arrest for traffic violation.

So when i see bunch of kids driving parallel to each other blocking whole right side of the road i shoudl plow true them and teach them a lesson.
Picture of Billm117 achievements

0 27. Billm1 commented 7 years ago

#26 legally left to turn right correct, if he had only turned right, you can be anywhere you want in the right turn only line if you were turning right, but not in a right turn lane to go straight ahead, just a traffic violation, not that hard two lanes one right turn only and one straight ahead, which one was the bike in, i will give you a cue, it was not the straight ahead lane, now do you see his mistake.
Picture of oleHashow30 achievements

-1 28. oleHashow commented 7 years ago

#27 ok i get that biker wasnt in proper lane, i totally get this, and if we go by the book.

car stops in the middle of the road for no reason.
Why dont you see this mistake?

Then car driver waited for 3 seconds before deciding to crash into biker

car driver lost its advantage when he stops for no reason and biker got the advantage couse the car is crossing the intersection while biker might go forward or right
biker has the advantage and is 1st in line to clear the intersection and car driver didnt respect biker at all.
