It isn't just professional bowlers who have to know about oil patterns and how it breaks down. They just do it all the time and therefore are much better at figuring it out. In the 14 years i have bowled not only the patterns have changed but also the volume of oil and type of oil. Mostly because newer bowler bowl with A LOT of revs and the oil just gets destroyed so they compensate by changing oil type and volume and the low rev guys have a harder time bowling. Which is also why PBIII prefers the short pattern. Nowadays he is a low rev player.
