I think someone is going to get sacked for this. :x This has to break some aviation safety rules big time.

#1 : There are many reasons a tower could accept something like that. It's why they have controlled air spaces around the airports; but anyway it is not really conventional.

here are some more infos : https://www.morgenpost.de/vermischtes/article212263591/Air-Berlin-Pilot-fliegt-Ehrenrunde-Kollegen-spenden-Beifall.html

Translation :
Christian Hoppe, spokesperson of the German Air Traffic Control confirmed that: "The pilot previously requested if he is allowed to fly a left-curve in case of a go-around and was given clearance." The necessary distance to other aircraft was ensured, the specific height of the maneuver was not determined. "From the DSF's point of view the maneuver was safe." The Federal Office for Air Navigation corrected earlier information, which claimed that the pilot had reported problems with the landing-gear. "That was our assumption."

The Federal Aviation Office will nonetheless examine the case, Air Berlin should submit a statement on the reason of the go-around. Our editorial staff believes, after multiple requests, that this is most likely routine operation.

Not really the sort of stunt a pilot should be doing with 200 passengers on board. :|

I heard the pilots got suspended for this. As far as I know, planes are not allowed to fly over the control tower.

#4 On reddit. :)

I'm flying to Germany tomorrow for vacation and I don't want to be a passenger in a "stunt plane", just straight from point A to point B would suffice, please :D

#4. When I board a commercial airliner I don't expect the plane to be piloted by some Biggles wannabee.

If I want a bit a bit of excitement, I'll jump off a block of flats with an umbrella for a parachute and a 3 litres of nitroglycerin in my pockets. :)

All shit. Air Berlin is out. Parts have been taken over by LuftHansa. Some flights, like Saarbrücken to Berlin (Tegel) have been taken over by LuxAir, All this pilots lost their job, So what the heck. We can fly a plane.
