#2 there is more to food than just fat and sugar. Like additives. Some people have experimented with lots of cakes and ants. They avoid the cake with synthetic things making the food last longer. Certain types of salt are also our friend, but only in moderate or minor amounts.

#3 Avoiding 'synthetic' things is irrational. Those additives are put in to preserve foods for a reason. To stop them spoiling and causing illness.
There is so much propaganda around so called natural foods that people are led to believe that chemicals are bad. When in reality everything is a chemical, even water.
You can avoid additives by cooking everything at home. But if a company wants a food to survive freezing and thawing, perhaps a number of times during transport, and try to keep the nutritional values stable then additives are the only answer to that.
