I find it somewhat wrong that the successors make more money and are more famous than the originals.

I have a friend, he can't tell jokes. Even if the joke is funny as hell, he can't make it funny. Another friend can tell the same joke, and make it better and funnier. It goes with music as well. Even the person who wrote the song might not be the best one to portray it. Sometimes other people execute your ideas better than yourself. Its all about who does it, and how they do it, not who had the idea in the first place. If an artist made something, and never got attention because they didn't execute their art in an appealing way, i see nothing wrong with another artist trying to make a better version.
Now, how do we divide the fame and money though? Who is the one who did the "job"? <-- #1

#2 Well no doubt the writer will get royalties from his or her song being performed/recorded by someone else, so that must be rather nice especially if the original writer and performer never made it big. What annoys me and I'm not really sure why it does, but it does, is when the new generation hears the song performed by some fecking boy band and they assume that is the original. Very often the new version isn't better, sometimes it is. The first example on this clip the Dolly and Whitney play off, in some ways it could be argued that performance wise the Whitney version is far superior but then when you read the reason the song was written by Dolly and who it was for (basically her on TV partner split) you see the honesty and emotion in Dolly's version and it becomes the better song in my opinion and she has much bigger breasts. 8-)
