Socialism is nothing more or less than a group of people pooling a resource to accomplish a goal for the individual members of the group that each alone could not accomplish. The very concept of government is socialist - the pooled resource is authority, and what's accomplished is a modicum of order.

Capitalism and socialism are not mutually exclusive, and there's not a single nation on this planet that is not a mixture of both. And they are both needed, because capitalism, while good for innovation on the whole, due to its evolutionary mechanisms, is bad for equality. Socialism is needed to rein in the excesses of capitalism, taking some of the fruits of the lucky winners and making a safety net for the unlucky losers. It's also needed for the basic fabric of a society. You don't have much of a nation without a military, law enforcement, transportation infrastructure, etc. - all socialized goods and services (and much of it outsourced to capitalist enterprises, such as construction firms to actually build the infrastructure paid for by the pooled public resources).

#2 Socialism might work in small groups where people "pull their own weight". Unfortunately it fails miserably in large scale applications. You know, the whole fantasy vs real world thing that screws up wonderful ideas on paper.

Luckily in the 20th century the CIA saved all those central American countries from that socialist nonsense by organizing multiple Coups and installing enlightened leaders making them the thriving successful economies they are today. Meanwhile those European countries with their mainly socialist governments and their free health care for all, paid parental leave and 30-40 vacation days a year are clearly failed states.

Especially since it's obvious that you have never spoken to a conservative and get all your talking points from batsh*t crazy websites. Conservatives DON'T demand Medicare and farm subsidies. Those are leftist policies that have been killing America and are NOT listed as functions of government in the Constitution. You will also find that most Conservatives are NOT fans of tariffs. No one ever wins a trade war. As for VA services, leftists love to throw this around as an example of socialism. It is not. It is an example of capitalism as it is a contract between the soldier and the government (draft excluded) that says if you are injured in service to your country we will do what we can to make you whole again. Not every veteran is eligible for free VA services. There has to be a certain level of service connected disability. Otherwise, a veteran can use VA services but have to pay for them. No one ever mentions that.
It's amazing that you downplay the fact that over 100 million were killed in the name of socialism last century alone. But oh, how leftists love to bash Christianity and want it eliminated mostly because over it's history there has been a tiny fraction killed in its name by comparison. You also forget all the failed socialist countries in history and pin all your hopes on Scandinavian countries. How about you give me an example of socialist success that is larger and more diverse than Vermont. It's interesting that you say American immigration policy MUST bring people in from these failed socialist states but bash the potus saying he only wants to bring in people from the 'successful' Scandinavian countries. What many many people want is secularism. To be free from laws written by evangelical white men that privilege Christianity over all else. The ideas they have are a healthy observation that something is greatly gone wrong in our society, and even in their own families, and they have a healthy sense of idealism, and activism to restore that, before they become like the rest of the older part of society, fat, greedy materialistic and sedentary. They are finally questioning the status quo, there is wrong with that. One can only hope that some of these kids maintain their youthful, refreshing sense of how a society should operate......yeah, yeah, socialism killed people....so did, and still does, capitalism. There is a happy medium, that does not exist in the US, but does exists in many European countries.
