ive seen these before. they washed up on shore during the 2004 tsunami. it kind of reminds me of a fish called Gobioides broussonetti --->

If I saw one of those I would hell no go near it and try to catch it.. I'd run as fast as I could and hope it cant fly after me..

#(removed comment) i believe you are correct.

according to wikipedia, they say that whale sharks grow to 2.2 meters (40 ft) and oar fish grow to 11 meters (36 ft). in the article it says that the oar fish is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bony fish when clearly they are wrong. oops

Of course sharks are fish! By definition even! They are just not boned fish (osteopisces), instead their skeleton is composed of cartilage.. Sharks are cartilage-fishes (along with rays and the like), and yes, the oar-fish is the longest bone-fish in the world =)

This is the first live one, I've ever seen. We had one in our museum in Clearwater Beach Florida, a plaster cast of one, found maybe 60 years ago. :) AWESOME!
