The only part that sucked is the 911 operator getting mad at the victim who was having his house and property broken into and stuff being stolen.

By having her say he could get charged for taking their vehicle is absolutely wrong and ridiculous.

I guess he should have just cowered in the basement!

He was not stealing it...he was preventing them from taking his goods.

These days a crook has more rights than a victim does!

The dispatcher was right, he can be charged with the theft of their van. The likely hood of that happening is another story. He should have just taken the keys out and thrown them and then proceeded to his neighbor's house. The burglars wouldn't have heard/seen their van driving away and most likely would have continued to burglarize his home and they probably would have been caught by the responding officers.

''thieves exit the house''

1'st thief: Dude, where's my car!?

2'nd thief: Dude where's your car?!

1'st thief: It's been stolen! call 911...oh...wait...damn

2'nd thief: can't trust anyone these days...sigh

I don't think he has to worry much about being charged for stealing their car...

They'd have to press charged and somehow I doubt they ever will :)

On the other hand it's most likely a stolen car anyways, so not only did he prevent the thieves from robbing him, he also managed to get stolen loot back and on top of that he recovered and returned a stolen vehicle.

So props to the guy :)

Now wait for the guys to come out of YOUR house and run them over with THEIR van. Then reland :D scape the backyard with a couple on new bumps in the grass. Problem solved.

But if he would have blown them away like we are allowed to do in defense of our property, that would be ok?
