And some people thought, getting 3rd degree burns from water is a myth.
Seriously, while I see no problem drinking it, showering could actually hurt you...

All I want to know is, how the hell did they find out it was flammable?

I wonder what the climate is like there. Otherwise no real reason to be scared if you can simply open up a few windows. Even if you can't there must be a lot of water running to get enough gas into the house to get an explosive mix.

#4 #8 maybe when the dude was drinking the water there was a weird taste to it and smelled it or something

Remember, natural gas has no odor, so gas companies add a stinky funk to it so people will be aware when there's a leak. I'm sure they should have been able to smell SOMETHING was wrong - particularly when going to drink it.
Can you imagine putting a pot of water on the stove to boil?

"EVERYTHING THAT I KNEW CHANGED IN THAT INSTANT"
exaggerate much?

Actually, methane is practically unsoluble in water (26 ml per l water). So the reason has to be because they live far off and have their own well, which lies next to natural gas caverns. Some bubbles are caught in the water stream and voilá! So no additive to smell it.
#10 See above. Only problem seems to be wells which have some connection to natural gas reservoirs.
#11 What does ethanole have to do with methane? methane is not toxic.
#13 When u switch on the lights, a small spark is created in the switch itself, which could ignite mixtures of air and methane (amount methane needs to be roughly 4-12 %).
#15 Once its out of the tap, the methane quickly disperses and the concentration would be too low for it to catch fire.
#16 Yep, I had the same thought.

Well!? Carbonized water's been around for 100+ year I believe. But this was something new to me 'methanized' water
.... #19 ..? That would be something - if it's not burning when sprinklers goes off - we'll ensure it will!! ![]()

does it make a difference if the light was on or off during showering?

...if they're so scared, why're they intentionally tampering with the water?
Anyways, It would be a loooot worse if they had that water in their Water Boiler. It'll be a Biiiiiig KaBoom!
