The film forgot to mention how you will be vaporized in steam if you are swimming when the bomb strikes.
I guess duck and cover doesn't work all the time :|

I can't believe it is taught after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. :O The victims of those places (and the human stupidity :S ) should teach more than any videos. There is NO cover only if you are already 100 feet deep in a bunker and the radiation is still a factor.

This short from the Terminator 2 is seem more realistic.
That's for duck and cover kids... smile at last and hope it's only the cam's flash. If it doesn't you wouldn't smile forevermore.

Ive gotta try that. Suddenly shout DUCK AND COVER! and see if people know what to do.... if they know they would throw themselves off their bikes onto the ground to duck and cover. and stay that way until a stranger comes to pick you up :D

Yeah! The firecracker in the beginning for sure took care of that monkey! Doubt it would be possible to Duck&Cover when becoming a cloud of vapor ... sad to say but part of the vid made me laugh ... but during these days it was no joke for sure! :S

When the bomb explodes the soldier must walk slowly to avoid panic and hold his gun in his reached out hands because the temperature is 3000 degrees and the gun will melt and liquid metal might drop on his feet.

Nice, and as said, makes me remember of fallout!

Made fot people think they are prepared : propaganda !
Ans an insidious other purpose : usual paranoîa... the danger is here , the governement is your protector.

i think the point of these videos was so that your average american would believe that should a bomb fall, they would be nice and safe in a doorway or under a newspaper:)
I guess it beats the constant fear that you could be instantly vaporised at a moments notice, with zero chance of surviving.

I'd stand in the bushes and flash a bright light at a bunch of people and then laugh when they faceplant.

I remember duck & cover drills. I also remember we all had our names on our desks. I now realize those name tags would make it easier to identify all those little bodies. I wonder if my children are any safer. :'(

om3ga3, you are so right. This stupid film was made so long after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We knew FULL well what the bomb did to people, even our pathetic little (thank God) bombs that we dropped to end the Japanese engagement. THere was a horrific amount of photographic information about what they did. If you ever have the opportunity to rent a Japanese DVD called "Black Rain", do so. It shows you in graphic detail what it was like, during and after. This includes the many who survived, unscathed, and seemingly unscathed. It is a true lesson in what an atom bomb, even a little one megaton one, can do. Realize that the ones these idiots NOW have are just a tad bigger. The ones we used were survivable, but we didn't know what we had. Duck and cover? Only in a concrete bunker. Once you see the light, well, there goes your flesh, unless you are very far away. Best place to be is right under.

Actually; they should teach 4 steps:
1. Duck
2. Cover
3. Tuck in head and put hand behind neck
4. Kiss ass good bye.
