the molder probably had numerous shapes that he reused again and again, instead of remolding each moving chess piece per frame.

It's just a matter of making a mould and shaping the pieces. The individual moves etc. he had to do manually me thinks. But still, very very impressive...

I know I would've smashed it all after the 2nd failure me thinks :)

I loved chess for a long time. I finally gave it up tho when it was demonstrated that computers can beat the best human players. But this video is wonderful. No computer can come up with something as creative as this.
